seems like every other day I'm hearing about a new boutique amp I never heard of before..it is crazy =)
there's alot that goes into a particular type of tone....I love EVH's early tone...that's not why I got a QR though...there's alotta other things that go into it...pickups, guitar, cabinet/speakers....definetly style....I can't play like EVH so I don't sound anything like his tone....I don't mind that =) I had an idea of the type of sound I wanted..
hell, just check out the sound clips..mine sounds different than craigs, which sounds different than BOZ, sounds different than Adam's, sounds different than Al's....
but you like what you like..nothing wrong with that.....

Shredder,
Of course everyone will sound different on even the same gear. My style is very VH. I can actually sound like ED at times but I can't play some of his old chops the way he does if that makes any sense? I would love to have my own style but heavy influences took care of that. I haven't heard anyone in a long time that sounds original so I don't feel so bad. To me there is still nothing that compares to the old VH sound. Its just explosive and will always be in a class by itself. I stubbled across these scumbacks on the gearpage which I surf all the time. Its not so much that I thought they sounded incredible but far better then the Emi PJ so I decided to bite the bullet and go with those speakers. They are hand made and conditioned to sound like the best celestions of the 60's and early 70's. They are made by Ted Weber for Jim at Scumbag.

why do I laugh everytime you say 'scumback'
lol....
glad you found something that suits you =)
some people say Is ound like lynch..and like you I can't cop his licks (like you said about eVH)..I guess it's more of an attack thing than anything else maybe? or the way I approach the guitar? who knows =)

Matt I think if you work on your phrasing and bends a little in the next few years you'll have a definite Lynch, VH thing happening. You've got all the chops.. I can tell your younger and still growing into your phrasing. Thats a good thing though because most guys have NONE. Live playing will take care of that too.
You can listen to all the clips, and bands out there and hear the bedroom shredders vs. the live players in a second.. like Al Estrada for example, great feel, vibrato, phrasing,, just awesome. Some other guys have all the speed and chops, but no vibrato or phrasing and it makes them sound less pro, less organic,,,, etc.. you know what I mean.

I know for sure that I can improve..no doubt about that..I tend to rush things and get a little sloppy...you'd think that wouldn't be the case after 15 years...lol...I just tend not to work on much of anything...I haven't really 'practiced' in years..that's work ya know..lol
