I have an excuse though,, I get paid to play 80's music,, LOL. Thats ALL we do.
Ironically Physical Grafitti opened for us on NYE 2004-5 downtown Orlando. I used to be in a band years ago with the singer, who not only does the Plant thing well, but he can do Sammy Hagar stuff awesome too,, anyway.. Johnny came up to me after the first set and said what the hell is that amp!? So I gave him the scoop and also told him he could get his Marshall modded by Scott. He said, NO WAY, I want that exact amp,, so he'll probably get the QR in gold and black. Hes just waiting to free up the funds I think.

I'm looking for pretty much the same thing you are DD..and I think with the addition of the third gear mod, it'll be more than modern enough... man, when eddie hits the G at the beginning of Mean Street...that's the SH*T!!! =D alotta more 'modern' sounding amps don't have that type of growl... That's what I'm talking about. I keep hearing that chord in my head and saying "That's it!" I wish this dealer here would have his nuts together so we can hear this thing! I know man! it's driving me nuts!!! I got the go ahead from the wife to get one if I want to...and I'm sooo tempted to call right now and order it and a 2x12...but I can't!! must hear it in person first..lol

well, donald was referring to a guy up in northern new jersey (johnny mo) who's gettin' a QR and a 2x12 in in a couple of weeks..it's a bit of a haul, (even more so for DD than myself), but I think it'll be worth the trip to try it before we buy it....

So I have been listening to the Splawn sound clips all day and I actually think I like sound on the ProMod clips better. I would hate to base anything off of internet sound clips though, especially since I have pretty crappy speakers and am at work so I can't blast it. The QR clip I really like is by Schmitt. Sorry to be ranting I just want to stop buying amps and find one I can be happy with!

have you been checking them out on rocksolid amps.com?
I like the way the promod clips came out better, BUT, I think that's because of the cabinet more than anything....it's recorded using a bogner ubercab with an xpattern of speakers similar to the splawn cabinets...the one that the QR is using is the framus cab with vintage 30's..and I generally don't like those speakers....the little things ya gotta pay attention to =D plus that clip didn't have the 3rd gear mod!
don't worry, dude..we'll get our chance to test drive a QR..maybe we could even meet up there if it works out for both of us...

No i didn't check out that site, just the Splawn site. I will though. If you want to meet up when he gets it in that would be cool. Always good to have another set of ears and to hear someone else play it.

Hi I'm new here as well...I am also from the state of Florida. I just purchased one of the older QR without the clean eq and toggle switches etc. I am currently playing a Slash/jubilee 100 watt head. I really do not want any more distortion than that found on the Use Your Illusions recordings. I do not like the emphasis on the sub lows like Mesa in order to sound "modern"- i'd rather write modern songs, if you know what I mean. I do not like the gobs of gain that everyone seems to be using on the sound clips. Can anyone make a clip of some aerosmith or something, cinderella, ac/dc, Kix, Great White??? these guys all used low gain punch, not the weedily deedily lead tone etc....Thanks guys!

are you just waiting for your QR to be delivered, les?

Yes, just waiting for delivery....as you can tell, I'm a little apprenhensive about purchasing an amp without playing it first...but..whatever! For the price I paid you could not order the parts and put it together yourself (Metroamp). It has the Mercury Magnetics transformers and doesn't have all that new crap on it that must affect the tone. Simpler=better...I read an article with Jim Marshall and when asked why everyone wants the older amps that tended to be less "versatile" he said "every time you add something to an amp you loose something". I thought that if I did not like 4 stages of gain I could get scott to convert it back to a jcm 800...I don't know, but worth a try.
Maybe he could call it the Quickrod Classic along the same lines as the VHT Pittbull Classic and Bogner Ecstasy Classic....just a thought.

understandable being wary about something you haven't played yet! I totally feel ya on that...I've gotten burned a few times..which is why I'm waiting to play it first..I'm sure I'm gonna dig it, but I wanna be 1000% sure this time..cause it's the LAST amp i'm buying for a LONG time...lol

Damn it, now I like the ProMod better! This is too difficult. I also want this to be the last amp I buy for a long long time. WTF!

WTF![/quote] LOL..easy there tiger =) I know what you're sayin' though...one minus to gettin' a boutique type amp...can't find them everywhere and it's hard to tell unless you're going strictly on other people's word of mouth and sound clips..which can be misleading.... I didn't know which I wanted for a long time either..pro mod or quick rod??? even though it's only a hundred more, I think the pro mod is a bit too pricey...but I'm definetly thinking the quick rod would just be better for me..more my style... I think it's capable of sounding more modern (or not so dated, I guess you'd say) than we think...
