50 watt amps make magic, don't be so desperate to change!
Can you do any sound clips of this beauty? I'd be interested to hear a more Plexi sounding Splawn. Presumably it has a volume mod, how does it sound down low? Ever owned a Bray to compare it to?
Nice catch.

No recording gear. I waste all my money on amps instead. Never heard bray in person but I have listened to all his clips manny times. The bray sounds awsome too , he , like Scott has a gift for modding Marshalls. I wanted to get a Bray but the bottom end is a little loose for my taste from the sound clips I have heard. This amp has tons of gain. It is not as articulate & is more saturated than my QR, not sure if it is related to it being a 50 watter. These tubes are old & it is really hard to judge it now. Whe knows where this thing is biased at anyway.. But this sounds very far from my QR, but they both sound great. As far as low volume goes it sound good even at whisper volume, but it is clearer when it is turned up. For some reason it is not near as loud as the QR when it is turned up.

I own that orange 59slp that Andy had, and I have to admit, not playing a Quick Rod, coming from a VHT Pitt Bull Classic, the VHT is louder. The 59 is bright but still chunky with the Merc Transformers, I used it for about 6 gigs now and I'm still getting use to it. I've ben using the VHT for 10 plus years. So old habits are hard to quit, just use to a certain thing. I would bet they sound pretty close if the Vol. caps are the same and not changed. I just like it too cause it looks like a regular Plexi.....well except orange. Everyone says "Is that amp stock" LOL

Everyone says "Is that amp stock" LOL I have watched the you tube video of your amp so many times I have lost count, I love that amp! That video is what started my splawn GAS . It looks cool too. It must sound big with the kt88's, do you like them? I ordered a bias probe & am gonna get new tubes in this thing in a day or two. My QR sounds very big, this amp is not like that but it has a very cool tone. I would dig the an SLP but it would prolly sound closer to my QR so that would be redundant. It would be more of a QR replacement , but it would be hard to beat the QR. But the Marshall plexi has a lot of sex apeal for sure..

Hey, I haven't switched, I still have the early model Pitt Bull with el34's and no eq. They are two different beasts. VHT is darker and has a slower attack time then the slp and alot more gain. I will never part with that amp.
Now the SLP has 34's and not the 88's...Mullards. I beleive an 87x Splawn was one I heard years ago, and that sound stayed in my head. And yes the sex appeal of the Marshall is a bonus. Like I have said before this amp is not forgiving, it is dirty but clear and really cuts. It has been said that the 800 cabs I have with the 75 speakers don't do it any justice, as they add more brightness. I would like to play it threw a Splawn cab for kicks. My bud has a TV cab with Greenbacks, I would like to here it threw that. On the bias probe it was cold at about 26ma, I think I have it up to 33ma now.

The 75 speakers don't do ANY amp justice. My 2x12 Splawn cab with Splawn speakers has arrived today and it's amazing, beats the Marshall 4x12 Greenbacks cab in my band's rehearsal room hands down.

What speakers are in it. I might swap out the 75s in one of my 800 cabs...money permitting.

SB25 and SB65. I can now finally use my treble and presence knobs, which I couldn't with the Vintage 30's or Greenbacks.

LooseCannon, what style of music do you tend to play with your new amp/cab ?

Hey Sonic, I already told you in that other thread, rock\metal, although my band plays more of a rock\blues style. The new cab is really awsome, forget about Greenbacks, the Small Blocks sound fuller without being harsh or piercing.
