One of the KT77s has gone south in my Nitro. I'm thinking that there may be problems with the JJKT77s since I have read a couple times on here that they have gone out pretty quickly. I have a brand new quad of EL34STRs sitting at home. Anyone's thoughts welcolmed. I wanted to get some opinions before I sprung for a $200 TAD bias meter to change the tubes out.

Dude if you get those in post some clips! I love the el34 sound, in a nitro that should kick all sorts of ass. But I dont see why you cant, as long as you get the bias in range. You might need to call Splawn and ask what the optimal range is for a nitro as I'm sure they've already tried it.

I tried the Russian EL34's. Ehhhh. They are okay. Kinda bouncy and loose. I just got in some Shuguang EL34B's. They are supposed to be a kinda neutral tube, so I'm hoping for good results. The Russians weren't a perfectly matched quad, so that may have had some effect. They broke up kinda early also. I won't be able to install the Chinese ones until Friday.

I got my jj el34l's today biased the amp up and this quad matches pretty well.I let them burn in for about a half hour readjusted and played it for about 10 minutes at low volume.I am going to get it to my practice spot tonight and open the bitch up.

well I'm going to say,I don't know if it is the fact that this quad is actually matched pretty close or the el34L tubes work better with the nitro.tonight is the FIRST time I have been this happy with the Nitro.I got it sounding so Brutal.the palm mutes were just devastating and this is before I ran an EQ thru the loop.I only brought the head and a couple of cables with me tonight but I did have my dano F&C there for the Bugera(that's right I said it BUGERA)If you guys have some spare change kicking around try one out.peavey better watch their ass.I bought a 6260 to check them out and it does sound just as good IMO better than a 5150.the only con is it is a very loose amp but a boost should take care of that.If it doesn't blow up these thing are going to fuk alot of amp companys sales up.
anyway,I am going play the nitro a bit more for longer amounts of time, open it back up,and check/re-bias the fooker in a week or two.my only complaint is the FKN hum that just will not go away.(at least it's not buzzing anymore)LOL...I am going to get the rest of my gear hooked back up to it and see if the decimator will kill it.all in all I am glad that this amp has stopped fkn with me at least for now.my last checked tube readings are(left-right)28.2,31.5,29.6,30.2.as opposed to the new kt77 matched quad 24,26,26,31 or something like that....and btw the static idle is also gone....

I'm still liking the EL34's in my Nitro. It is more brutal than it was with the 77's. ;D

I think Mark is talking about running those JJ E34L, not regular EL34.

Windsen didn't you post comparsion clips of the nitro with kt77s vs el34s? yes but i realized after the fact was that the el34s that came with my nitro were rated very low and the kt77s were rated much higher. the lower rated tubes, when biased up properly will have less headroom and have a much softer attack compared to the kt77s. the reason i went with kt77s after the initial swap was b/c the kt77s were much punchier and tighter. i want to try out another set of el34s, but this time ones that are rated higher so that they'll have a much sharper attack. the ones i originally had were a bit too spongy feeling, even when i tried them in my QR.
