My QR sounds really muffled with the volume pedal (EB VP Jr. 25k). It's decent for practicing, but there's no way I'd ever use one in my loop when gigging.

To my ears it does. It still sounds a little bit "choked" for lack of better words.

The 25K version is meant to be used with active electronics or keyboards (see the ernieball website). The 250K one is used for guitars. I don't know if the one you have is killing your tone.

Pretty sure the 25k is meant for effects loops too, as waylay00 is doing. They used to have a more comprehensive FAQ explaining this.

It may be that it's actually better for an effects loop. The G-major has an input impedance of 21K also. I guess the 250K version is really meant to be used from the guitar to the amp input where the low impedance would cause a problem. In the effects loop it may actually be better. Anyone else has some thoughts on this? It would be interesting to hear if someone actually compared the two types of volume pedals (high & low impedance versions).

so will any of those omnisonic boxes work? They're labled for all different types of amps but I'd imagine it's all the same on the inside anyone? anyone?

Hey Matt, I went with the one that said 'Volume Box - MARSHALL JCM 900 800 2000 SL-X 2100 DSL ' and that works fine with the Splawn and the Elmwood.

For the love of all that is holy, it's a volume pot soldered to an input jack and an output jack. They are all the same. He'll tell you this himself.

As Ayton said, they are also meant to be used in effects loops (hence why I got the 25k, had to order one). From what I've heard, I don't think there's that much difference in tone. The main audible difference between the two is the sweep in the pedal.

waylay, i've got the same volume pedal and I ordered the omnisonic about 2 days ago. i will be trying it out very soon and can tell you if I notice any difference. Mine sounds muffled to at low volume, but it doesn't after I crank it. I have a wireless unit so I can get a pretty good distance away. ;D

I'm looking forward to seeing what your thoughts on the omnisonic are!

I spoke with a rep from Ernie Ball today and he recommended the 25K version for effects loop. He said that one was designed for active electronics (effects processor control, active pickups or buffered loops). He said the sweep would be much better as Waylay00 mentioned. The 250K version is the one to use anywhere between the guitar input through the amp input.
