Yep I did. I tried everything. I still don't understand what the first button on the left (Mode/) is for.

I play mainly 80's 90's rock stuff. Dio, black sabbath, etc. I own close to 30 guitars with a variety of pickup types, but the usual combo are the Duncan JB/59 mix. DIO! Honestly, if you play that type of stuff, you should have no problems getting the sounds you want. I play metal ala old Metallica, Megadeth, Maiden, etc. I usually use Gear 1/OD 2 with the gain anywhere from 3 o'clock to dimed for those types of sounds. When I switch from one gear ot the next I notice a slight increase in tone/bite of the amp but nothing really noticeable. Third gear tone wise is not much different than first gear. I own a THD Hot Plate and I ran the amp thru that last night and there was no huge tone difference either. If you're not noticing a difference in terms of gain/saturation and tone going from Gear 1 to Gear 3, then there's an issue somewhere. Compared to Gear 1, Gear 3 has a little thicker sound, is more saturated, etc. It should be a difference you'd notice in both sound and feel.

From the site: F/S functions #1 Mode When the mode switch is set to 1st gear Light on 1st gear/ light off 2nd gear
When the mode switch is set to 3rd gear Light on 3rd gear/ light off 2nd gear
you should definitely be hearing a difference between these.

Yep I did. I tried everything. I still don't understand what the first button on the left (Mode/) is for. Bingo! If that's not lit, then all you're hearing, all the time, is 2nd Gear, no matter what is selected on the front of the amp. This is why you're not noticing much difference. With that lit, and OD2 on, select 3rd Gear on the amp and tell me it's not hot enough.

i gotta be honest...i don't think there's anything wrong with his amp...
i think he has to either turn it up to a good volume so it can breathe or throw a tube screamer in fornt...
do a search on youtube for my band megahertz...there's clips on there of the splawn with a TS running through it...we cover songs that you'll like...
i think you'll feel better if you throw a TS infront...those clips of scott weren't at a high volume...but they also weren't a bedroom levels...

I always go back to this, so apologies ahead of time: If he adds the tuner are you going to up the price Matt? Mais, bien sur! Translation: Of course. Gotta keep the fraternity small. But, I like that whole amp turns red/green ideal.

Sounds like I will be giving Scott a call. I made that same call when I got mine. The gear functioning on the Comp is not all that self-explanatory. I called Scott because I thought they either had it backwards or something was wrong. I explained what was happening, and he said, "That's how it works" or something along that order: When gear knob is on 1st/2nd gear, Left light off means 2nd gear, left light on means 1st gear When gear knob is on 2nd/3rd gear, left light off means 2nd gear, left ligh on means 3rd gear. Even my wife can hear the diff, so it's definitely there.

no...there's a touch of reverb and a ts I think he was asking if you were using a Competition, and you may have thought he meant compressor... ;D

Well gang... I will try going through everything again and see what happens. Is there a huge difference in gain between triode and pentode modes?

No, I don't think so. The 25 watt mode seems a little mellower with less bite. I don't sense a change in gain, though.
