I don't really like 25w, it looses the presence and aggressivness and sounds less big, the same happens when I try the volume pedal in the loop trick. I agree. But, part of me really likes a mellower tone also - it's a different flavor. I was jamming over these sort of mellowish jam tracks, real slow and organy, and the 25 watt mode made is sound smooth baby. Me likes it as much as 50. Diff'rent strokes |

50W or 25W? I like 'em both. I know Loose doesn't like it, but I spend lots of time playing in Triode (it's really more like 30W  ). It has less presence and articulation, yes, but I perceive that as warmth, with a little sleaze and grease between the notes. It's definitely more forgiving. I don't know, I just find it really lyrical and smooth. It compliments all my legato playing. As the only Splawn with Triode mode, rather than regular half-power, I'm grateful we have this extra little palette to play with. And of course we can flip back to Pentode if we want the full chinchilla. |

I agree that triode is warmer and smoother, saggier too, and is better for jazzy\fusion stuff or mellower stuff, but to me it just looses the splawn's unique tone. It's still great to have the extra mode though.

We have a 2x12 Splawn cab with governors and it does have the classic British sound we like. I brought the amp a shop and tried on a marshall cab 4x12, it seemed to have exposed the construction flaws on the cab, kind of interesting. I am going to try on different cabs at two more shops.
