I know.. I know... Most people either love 'em or hate 'em... But Ace was the one that made me pick up guitar in the first place. My older Sister took me to my first Kiss concert when I was 11.. (Jan. 25th '76) and now I have that bootleg on DVD. As far my style and annoying bands.. I'll admit.. I have no style. I just enjoy trying to emulate any decent guitar player.. I appreciate all music. I may choose to turn the channel on a tune that's not "doing it for me".. but I would never say I hate. Your hate comment kinda surprised me, seeing as how I know you're into some far out stuff..

I'm with DonaldDemon on this one too. For years I thought of them as cartoons, or lunchboxes, or other type of merchandise rather than a band. Once I made the band realization, I thought they were kinda goofy....kinda like Menudo. ;D Enjoy... www.musicofpuertorico.com/en/menudo.htmlCool vids BTW. Patrick

IMO it's essential to own: Kiss alive I, Kiss alive II and Kiss alive III. Oh yeah and Lick it up. You can't deny the riffing on that album. "All hells breaking loose is a sick riff!!!!" But that's just me.

But that's just me. What about Dr. Love? Now, there's a riff....BWAH-HAHA. The background vocals are what really get me. Gene is growling..."I am the doctor of love" and in the back you got the super girly "doctor looooove". What a mix. Patrick

Kiss realized that they had to capture the vibe of a live show. Their studio albums aren't the greatest. The live CD's rock!!! LIsten to Kiss Alive II and tell me Dr. Love doesn't rock.

Kiss Alive II rules. How can anyone like rock music and not like that record? And I defy any singer to hit the notes Paul Stanley STILL hits to this day.. Classic band classic tunes. As for however bad they were gimmicky or musically, they weren't any worse than the other mediocre 70's bands. I still think "I want it Loud" is one of the heaviest tunes ever.

Creatures of the night was a great album. When they hired Eric Carr they changed their whole tone of things. Heavy hitting Bonham drummer!!! I love it loud is one of my favorite Kiss songs! Turn it up hungry for the medicine! Two fisted til the very end! Yeah yeah!!! Great song!!

Even though they're not technically challenging.. My favorite riffs are on Kiss Alive I... Hotter than Hell, Firehouse and Watchin' You.. However, I was sorry to find out the tracks they used on that album weren't actually recorded at the show. I did feel ripped off after I found that out.. But I understand why they did it.. and it's still a great album.

Ever see where Gene Simmons lives? The man has made zillions of money playing simplistic rock songs. I think they play what's right for the song. Lick it up is a perfect example. There's no rippin solo in there. But what they did play fit that song. Listen to "All hells breaking loose" that's a killer riff and a killer solo. When needed they can deliver and when not needed they have the knowledge to lay back and play what's right for the song.

Yep.. If I remember reading this correctly... When they started out their basic formula was to just take a few basic Rolling Stones/Beatles progressions and change 'em around a bit.. Seems to have worked out from them! As far as the Gimmick aspect.. I think it was a great idea.. It was a great way to set themselves apart from every other band that was trying to score a deal. They basically paved the way for all the merchandising that goes on today in the music industry..
If it wasn't them, someone else would have done it sooner or later. I wish it were me!

Ok, I checked out the riff at a friends house. It was a complete and utter mess....to quote Simon Cowell. I guess it all boils down to the fact that your a lover and I'm a hater. But that's ok....if it does it for you, and millions of others, then rock on! Patrick
