We all should get the guys at Splawn to see if they will sell some good ones. Had a bunch of planet Waves and upgraded to brand X and what a difference. Having 10' to the fx bypass looper then 20' to amp and 2 more 20' for the effects loop. thats a total for 70' thats a long line for a signal lose, having good cables is a crucial part of your tone, They are very busy these days, but it just a thought,

yeah, I can attest. I had some George L's, and they just killed my tone with the QR. Bought some used Monster rock cables, and the difference is amazing. I also use a Valvulator, which flips your signal to low impedance through the cables. You can run 80-100 ft. and not lose much at all.

I have a 6 foot zaolla thats indescribable, the amount of tone that goes through that cable, but I think there like $160.00 for a 25 footer. Lava makes some great ones also.

Not to mention they can take a beating. My cables have been wrapped in knots, stomped on, ran over countless times by cabs...most have masking and electric tap residue all over the from being taped down on stage countless times...and they all still work like they just came out of the package new. We know a guy who finally decided to upgrade cables after all these years and he switched to Monster Rock. His quote was..."It was like taking a blanket off of my cab".

it's funny , he George L's sounded maybe as transparent, but they were so thin sounding it was AM radio like compared to the Monsters. I almost bought some Lava cable, but found a good deal on the monster.

Honestly, cables are a part of the sound and you need to own an arsenal of them. In addition to the obvious (connectors, cable quality, etc) the make and distance both effect sound as well. I've got a dozen cables of various lengths I use for recording purposes, and then some I use specficially for live performance as well. There are sonic differences in cables that are often very much apparent. And regardless of what some people will try to make you believe, microphone cables also differ, not just instrument cables.
While there are indeed some "low quality" cables that roll off too much high end and/or have poor shielding, the rule to remember is there is no one "great" cable that fits everybody's needs. You can get Mogami, Monster and any other "great" cable and each will sound different, and no specific one will necessarily appeal to any given person.
I agree though, it would be really nice if the Splawn guys could sell (even if just a re-brand) cables they have tested and found to be highly compatible with their amps.

Yeah, I hear ya shred....I'm trying not to be a cable cork sniffer. I found some guy selling 2 21' monsters for $50 - otherwise I was gonna go back to my cheap stuff.

sorry Sonic...not aiming that "cork sniffing" comment at you, we posted at the same time almost. I just don't see a reason to spend huge amounts on the cable as long as they aren't throwing a blanket over the amp. I not touring or whatever either though. Just a few gigs here and there.

Fair warning with Monster cables: They have enlarged plugs and have been known to trash input jacks over time. I will not use them because of this. They tend to be most problematic with barrel jacks on guitars, and on certain effects pedals.

What is everyone using as far as cables with your Splawn?
I just got monster rock cables like I said above, but I am sufficiently freaked out about the larger plug now...they sound good though. Maybe I'll just go back to the cheap stuff.

I agree though, it would be really nice if the Splawn guys could sell (even if just a re-brand) cables they have tested and found to be highly compatible with their amps. To play devils advocate, that seems to contradict...why would Splawn sell/rebrand cables they think is compatible if everyones perception of a good sounding cable differs and what Splawn thinks is compatible - "sounds good" - could drastically differ from Guitarist X who plays a different style of music? I'm of the opposite mindset. There's a million brands of cables out there and companies who have been making cables to appeal to players of all genres for countless years. Let them worry about making/selling cables and let players figure out what they to use. I'd rather see Scott and company making/designing amps than spending time worrying about testing, selling, or rebranding cables. If someone can't find a decent cable on their own with the millions out there, then I think they're just being too damn picky...
