What is everyone using as far as cables with your Splawn? I just got monster rock cables like I said above, but I am sufficiently freaked out about the larger plug now...they sound good though. Maybe I'll just go back to the cheap stuff. Bah...don't let words like "enlarged plug" scare you. You're not going to suffer any detrimental effects from using Monster cables. The only thing enlarged is going to be your tone... I've used Monster cables for years, as have countless local and pro musicians. If they gave any of us fits, we would have stopped using them a long time ago. Monster cables sound great, they're durable, and they have a lifetime warranty. So, it's the last cable you'll ever buy. The last thing I'd worry about is whether or not a plug will wear out the input jack. Any plug will wear out a jack over time. I'd be more worried about my tone than whether or not I had to replace a $2.95 Switchcraft jack in 10 years...

Fair warning with Monster cables: They have enlarged plugs and have been known to trash input jacks over time. Yea my old girl friends had the same complaint. ;D

I think the whole overpriced cable market is nonsense. If you buy any good quality (Monster, Planet Waves, Mogami, Lava, etc) you can't go wrong. Just stay away from the cheapos and you'll be fine.
FWIW, I use a Planet Waves gold tip from guitar to pedalboard, all George L's to connect the pedals, Monster for the effects loop, and Monster Rock from pedalboard to amp.

Man I go through Monster cables as fast as any other cable. The lifetime warranty doesn't do you much good when they die at a gig. I go through tons of cables and I haven't found one brand to be any more reliable then any other.

so true..... at some point every brand of cable has died on me at a gig I probably shouldn't say this because I might curse my gig on Thursday but...I have never had any instrument cable die on me in about 7 years of gigging. Not the cheap ones or the med-high price ones. I have had little sh!tty patch cables for pedals die but never any instrument ones. Hell, I don't even carry backups.

You can get Mogami, Monster and any other "great" cable and each will sound different, and no specific one will necessarily appeal to any given person. I agree though, it would be really nice if the Splawn guys could sell (even if just a re-brand) cables they have tested and found to be highly compatible with their amps. To play devils advocate, that seems to contradict...why would Splawn sell/rebrand cables they think is compatible if everyones perception of a good sounding cable differs and what Splawn thinks is compatible - "sounds good" - could drastically differ from Guitarist X who plays a different style of music? I'm of the opposite mindset. There's a million brands of cables out there and companies who have been making cables to appeal to players of all genres for countless years. Let them worry about making/selling cables and let players figure out what they to use. I'd rather see Scott and company making/designing amps than spending time worrying about testing, selling, or rebranding cables. If someone can't find a decent cable on their own with the millions out there, then I think they're just being too damn picky... +1 and FWIW I love my Lava cables.

Fair warning with Monster cables: They have enlarged plugs and have been known to trash input jacks over time. I will not use them because of this. They tend to be most problematic with barrel jacks on guitars, and on certain effects pedals. Sonic This is why my jack went to crap, the prior owner used monsters. I use Voodoo's now was using Plant Waves, had a amp modded with the witchdoctor few years back and Trace gave me a great deal on cables.

I use all Whirlwind Leader cables (send/return FX loop, guitar to amp).

nOOb cable question here: Do you use guitar cables in the effects loop, or speaker cables? in the loop I use guitar cables for my set up. Never tried the speaker cables for that.

why would you want to use speaker cables in the loop?

No particular. It wasn't until a few months ago that I learned that a guitar cable is bad between the head and the speaker, and I'd been doing it for some time - so you never know about these things unless you ask I guess. I just keep wondering if it was anything I was doing to have my effects loop card poop out. All I've ever used was the volume pedal (Morley Little Alligator) in the loop. Still haven't gotten around to installing the new one.

I use Mogami and LOVE them. They are not too expensive, but I think the quality is much better. Unlike some of the rest of you, I did not have good luck with Monster cables. Seemed to crackle horribly when moved, and their angle connectors always seemed to come apart at the worst possible moment. Also, make sure you get a damn good speaker cable! Faulty speaker cables can throw a bad load back onto the amp - something you dont want.
