I was on the SD pickup Forum quite a while back. there was this guy talking about Splawn & he own a Quickrod ( first Generation) It was all snake skin. posted a pic. Dirrty Craig was on the forum as well. I think that when DC decided to buy his first QR after chatting with the guy. This is when Scott first started making his amps beside the modding. After that I started lusting for one as well. DC also was the first to put a review on HC for QR. Everybody on the SD forum was waiting to read his review.
I think it spark alot of attention to Splawn Amplication. Kinda cool when I sit back and think about it.
I think the QR were selling like 15 or 1600 back then.

I first heard of Splawn off of the HC amp forum. This was back when they were only modding Marshalls and right when they just added a clean channel mod. I remember back when I bought my PRS CE-22, I amost bought a Splawn modded JCM 800 2203x from them instead. I guess I almost came full circle since then with my V3 Quickrod.

Yep Alice that was quite a while ago. I have the only original snakeskin 1st gen QR.. still have it of course. Scott said that was his first snakeskin QR. He had covered another amp in it but mine was the first Quick Rod built like that. It was one of the last with the old transformers.
When my 5150 started dying I decided to go back to a Marshally type of sound. Did alot of searching and alot of research. I came across a post of some cool sounding clips on VhForums.com I think they were VomHalen's clips.. that sparked my interest.. When I heard Al and Scott's clips on the Splawn site I was sold. Scott's Light up the Sky clip I think is still one of the best "dry" Splawn clips... and Al's clips are just sick,,

I have a Pro Mod with the Mercury trannies, and I'm curious about the gain sound differences.

I like my newer one better, but the old one is like twice as loud and I'm not exaggerating,, its strange actually. They both sound amazing in different ways but I really, REALLY, like 1st gear and it sounds different than anything on the old one. That being said I get offers to buy it all the time and won't sell it cause its still the best sounding amp, much less backup I could ever want.

first place I heard of the splawn was craig's clips on the duncan boards as well...which, looking back at it, was one of the few things that site was actually good for....LOL......

Good friend of mine (who's a rippin guitarist and knows tone) told me about them. I visited the website, listened to the clips, bought a Splawn.

I heard about Splawn years ago when I was looking for and ENGL dealer. The ENGL web site listed Scott's address but when I drove there, all I saw was an Auto Parts store. I drove off quite disappointed as I had heard good things about the ENGL Blackmore and was eager to try one out. When I got back home I confirmed the address on the ENGL dealer web page and picked up his phone number and gave him a call. Sure enough...the address was right. Scott told me he had a section of the store where he ran his guitar/amp biz, and I should stop by anytime. So, the next time I was in the area, I pulled in and found some really cool gear.
The first time I really heard his amp was when I went to hear his band play. He was playing a modded white Sovtek Mig 100 head through a white 4x12. It was quite funny...the guitarist that opened for Scott's band played through an Egnater. So I'm thinking....boutique head, awesome tone, I'll have major G.A.S after the show, etc. However, the Egnater was a big dissapointment...it sounded really muddy. There was really no note definition at all. Then Scott comes on stage with an el-cheapo Sovtek and levels the house! Still to this day...I'm amazed at how good it sounded....goosebumps!
BTW...it would have cost me a whopping $400 for Scott to do the same mod he had on his Mig 100. My, how the times have changed!!!

I had a mutual friend that knew Scott. Scott was a Rio Grande dealer and Dave Wintz (Rio Grande/Robin) wanted him to carry Robin guitars. My friend (Daniel) said that Scott wanted to see some Robin guitars. I own a few so I brought them in.
That was the old auto parts days back when the first Sovtek mods where running around in Scotts head. Seen some changes since then, the new retail store, cabinet shop. I was surfing some forms the other day and thinking how big it has gotten. From auto parts to being compared to Soldano, Bogner, and Diezel.
Great job Scott!!!!

I was surfing for guitar dealers in N.C. for different makes after nearly quitting playing for nearly 8 years. Charvel was one of the ones I surfed and saw Splawn guitars. So I checked out the site not even looking for an amp at that time. But when I saw his site, heard the clips, and most importantly, talking with him and seeing what kind of person he is, I had to have one. Getting this amp has given me the boost and drive to wanna play alot again.

i was doing a search on "san dimas charvels" years ago and came across scott's site...i remembered the name because alot of the guys on charvel central had plexis that scott modded and raved about them...
i forgot about my search on charvels and read his testimonials page, alot of them were from guys that liked the same type of music i do.
at this time a had a very high end plexi clone that was dissapointing to me. i emailed scott and told him what i was looking for, he assured me that a QR is what i was looking for. as luck would have it, this guy on HC was selling one so i bought it.
from the minute i fired it up i knew that scott was right...
that inspired me to create this board inorder to spread the word....

I live about a mile from Scott's shop. A friend of mine said that Scott was looking for some metal fabrication work done. I'm in the Metal fab business so I went by his shop and Ive been building his chassis ever since. I traded the very first 50 chassis for a Quick Rod.
