ok, as you all know when I first slapped my BBQ in my lynch I loved it! anywho, I recently switched strings for the next batch of shows and I'm wondering what it was about the PUP that I liked in the first place?? it just sounds weak and flubby..and the harmonics aren't there.... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! think I got a bad set of super slinkies? I've been hearing more and more of inconsistent quality with those strings these days....funny thing is I've been using them for nearly a decade now with no such issues..but I've noticed a couple of dead sets of strings in the last couple months.... sometimes I hate being a tone junkie =)

think I got a bad set of super slinkies? No, I think a bad case of OCD and tone-itis.

Theres your problem right there, EB strings!! dude, those are the WORST strings. I thought everyone knew that. I think they were good until the late 80's from what some old timers have told me.
Try the D'Addario or if you can find them get S.I.T. I still think those are the best.

I agree with Dirrty Craig, EB are very inconsistant from my experiance.. like craig said,, I also was one who switched in the late 80s... and was much happier.. I used Super Slinky's for over a decade... then I had to find something more stable,, D Addario.. S.I.T, even dean Markleys are rated better than Slinkys to me. sorry dude ! you just gonna have to try the homo strings.. HAHA...

Might as well try the D.A.'s again.. they where not my favorite string 15 yrs ago either, but something has changed, them or me I dunno!! but now, after about a hour on the A.D.'s they get silky. they are just a touch stiff for the first hour or so.. and now I use them all the time.. buy them by the box's LOL. I havent tried the DRs'

Which is why I like non-locking-floating trem guitars

I betcha anything it's not bad strings. Just my gut feeling. Unless of course they sound dead acoustically. FWIW I use EB's, I like 'em. I have noticed however that sometimes they last for 2 nights or even more and still sound good, sometimes they're completey dead after 1 night. So maybe there's your consistency issue there, but while they lasted they sounded pretty good. I like D'Addairios too - I have a set on my PRS right now that I did 2 full nights (4 hours apiece) and they still sound pretty good. I think either: - you're strings are acoustically DOA out of the box - If your strings are alive acoustically, your pickup or electronics somewhere in the chain have something going on all of a sudden - Or you're just hearing things differently at the moment, and obsessing on it. In fact, let's make this interesting. Let's make bets. I'll bet Shred's pickup is fine, and after chasing gremlins for awhile he finds an unexpected part is zapping his mojo. I was going to say he's going to find a bad tube somewhere, but I'm SURE he's smart enough to have a/b'd other guitars throught he exact same rig, right? Right? ?? Slap that BBQ on an ohm meter, I wanna know.

your right on the money morecowbell! thats what was happening.. sometimes in one night the strings where dead.. (intonation goes real fast sometimes) they where great for a few days.. I used EB's and hated to change! but like you said.. the D'addarios last for a weekend.. I have had many strings dead out of the box too.. 10 minutes and change em again.. anyone else buy strings by the case?
Shredder.. ear wax problems? LMAO!!
