That JTM 45 is a cool build. Do you have any close ups of her? Love those nudie pix of tube amps. That's a non-master volume right? I'll bet she sounds righteous when you crank her up! Yes it is a non master , it does sound very cool! the harmonic overtones are outstanding. as you can see in the right upper corner its completed, I ended up changing the power supply to a prebuilt with bias control. changed out jacks to switchcrafts. marshall impedance selector. We also just completed building a 2x12 cab , once again home made. my neighbor built it since I cant cut straight! hahah.. sooo... its now all home brew system. now the sad part, just sold it. I get to start over and do another one for more fun. This combo sings the blues really nice. too open sounding with the custom cab for rock/metal. and thats what sold it. cleans sounded full with lots of bottom end. great for jazz blues stuff with a semi hollowbody. edit:. and cab, we havent finished front cane grill yet. Celestion V-30 and G12H speakers in cab.

Thanks for the pix Hacksaw. I tinker with homebrews too, and I love seeing what other people have put together. Nice job...I likey. I actually hate the building process because I become so engrossed in getting it done that I can't think of anything else. But it is pretty satisfying once the project is complete.
That speaker cab looks pretty nice as well. Did you guys come up with that design? You have to post pix once you get the grill on. I'm a big fan of the V30s and would really like to hear those G12Hs. That cab HAS to sound good. Have you tried the Splawn with it yet?

I did try the splawn through the cab, it sounded very raw and compressed. the mids and highs where velvet smooth. the tone also seemed " wider " not as focused as a 4x12. I think thats part of the big cab reasonance thing. bottom end was a little to loose. with the jtm45 it was a great match. compressed with that old wood sound. I would be interested in your builds as well, and for the same reasons! LOL, agreed its always cool to see someones work and what they have done with it. Right now I am getting into the flanger kit I got and then I will have to figure out what I want to build next. the jtm45 was a 3 on the scale of 1 to 5 for complexity. I think I am ready to try something, I just dont know what! Yes , getting it done asap is very tough! LOL!! I have to get it done also! I start by wiping the calander for a weekend, start saturday morning, then stop sometime sunday. then finish up though the week if I need to. LOL.. Caffine time...

Yeah, your description of the cab being a little loose on the bottom does make sense, with it being so big an' all. So did you sell the cab along with the amp, or just the amp? As for my builds, I didn't really document any of them with photos. I know I had taken a few pix of 'em, but don't know what happened to the ones I did take. Can't find them in my "guitar stuff" folder. Anyway, I WILL take some more pix eventually. Right now I'm getting ready to move cross-country from Phonix area to middle Tennessee, so my music room is all packed. Once I get moved and settled in I should be able to snap some pix. I'll try to briefly tell you what I've done. The first was a little SE amp called the Hi-Octain from the AX84 website. I didn't really know what I was doin' when I built that one. It's a little noisey, but it works. Exterior looks respectable...just don't look at the guts. Then I jumped headlong into an SLO knock-off. I spent alot of time on this one because I made the chassis and the head cabinet from scratch. It actually turned out pretty well...looks good and sounds good, but once again the guts leave alot to be desired. I should have done some more studying before I took that one on. This last one is a combo based on the 'dano atomic 16. This time I felt like I really knew what I was doing. I used a hammond chassis and built the cabinet myself. I layed out the circuit on eyelet cards instead of using terminal strips and generally made the guts look alot tidier than the other two. It sounded ok, but I tinkered with the cathod resistors and bypass caps to try and get more gain out of it. I'm still not 100% happy with it. When I get the time, I'm gonna' rebuild it and turn it into a low powered JCM 800. After thinking about it, I realized that the real beauty of a low powered amp like that, is being able to crank it without ripping peoples heads off. ;D Sorry I went on so long here. I guess since a picture is worth a thousand words, I felt compelled to type all 1000. Are you familiar with the AX84 stuff? If not, you may want to snoop around over there for ideas on the next build. BTW...I actually missed at least one day of work, when I was tryin' to get that SLO done. CAN'T!.....STOP!.....MUST!.....FINISH!......AMP!!!! LOL! Anyway, I'll talk to ya' later buddy. Chuck the guitargoyle
