What are the benefits of using 2 4x12 cabs? Is it just volume or will the tone be much bigger? I was considering using 2 cabs at the HOB show coming up next Friday but I don't know if its worth the extra hassle.
Actually, I have a Bogner 4x12 (16ohms) and a Rivera K312 w/ 2x12 (8 ohms) and a powered 300w sub ;D. How the heck would I set that up and what would I set the amps ohm selector to? we are only a 3 piece so I want to make the sound as large as possible.

OK I will attemp this, anyone with corrections please post.
I always use 2 cabs as the tone and the coverage is a lot better. there is a perceived volume increase just because you are filling more area with sound.
2 cabs, so your impedance is divided by two, 8=4 and 16=8 then average the two will give you 6 ohms. what?? no 6 ohm setting on the amp! set the amp to 4 ohms. if the amp ohms is set lower than the speakers it will be safe. if the amp impedance is set higher then the speakers then you will have excessive current draw on the output stages and cause higher than normal heat.
only the thing I can think of on the sub would be to split the signal coming out of the serial loop.

Thanks hacksaw, I knew the techie in you would be helpful:). I guess that would work. I would have to use both speaker outs because the Bogner only has one jack. As for the sub, that's usuallt the way i connect it but it is tricky because it actually goes through the loop of the sub. It's alot of wires! Its something like- amp send>Pedalboard in >sub send> sub return>pedalboard out>amp return. whatever i forget, but its confusing! Makes me wish i had another 4x12 to make it easier! If I have 2 16ohm cabs that means the amp is run at 8 ohms?

LOL.. I have been using two 4x12's for so long, yeaup, two 16 ohm cabs will be 8 ohms on the amp if you plug both cabs into the amp,

Man I love it when I see someone else who uses two 4-12 cabinets.RAWK!!!It's not overkill ,it's Rock and Roll!
I use two cabs every chance I get! One cab is GT1275 and the other Vintage 30's.Massive "coverage".Massive sound.
I need to get two Splawn cabs.Double RAWK!!!!

Well I used 2 Marshall straight cabs w/GT75's last night at the rehersal studio and the sound was HUGE! I actually had to diconnect one after a few songs because it was just too much for the room that the bass was drowning everything out.
I imagine that it would be incredible on a big stage but I think I am going to just use one cab for the show because I don't have any roadies and there is a 1000' distance from parking lot to stage! I also don't want to hook up both cabs if I am not sure of the impedence. I am used to using one cab so it won't make much of a difference.

I always bring 2 cabs to bigger shows or special shows.. it just LOOKS COOL and the sound on stage is great, like Hacksaw said more coverage. Look at the NYE video I posted, thats all stage volume from those 2 cabs. If you walked out further I'm in the PA too, but the sound on stage is fantastic. You sound better, you look cooler which means you'll play better.

i'm defeinetly gonna get another cab some day..probably a slant, just to have one =D if for nothing else, i can keep one in the bedroom and one at my guitar player's future studio or downstairs so I don't have to have someone help me lug it up a flight of stairs all the time..lol....
I'll have to sneak that one in later on down the line, after the rug rat comes into play..lest my wife beat me to death with my own shoe and reaps the benefits of my lofty life insurance policy..lol

I have a Marshall 4-12 in my office/studio, the Splawn in the garage ready for loading to gigs, and Peavey VTM 4-12 at rehearsal,,, I never have to carry them around cause theres always one right where I need it,, LMAO.
