uh...i don't know if you know but i'm in 2 bands right now.
1 is a hair metal cover band and the other is a party rock band.
the party rock band (gamma rays) has been together for over 3 years...we broke up 9 months ago mainly because i got an offer to join the metal cover band (and my old bass player and drummer quit)...so i'd been playing with them for the past 7 months...
now, the gamma rays are getting back together w/ a new drummer and bass player.
the issue is that i'm having a lot more fun in the gamma rays than i am in megahertz...megahertz just seems like a lot of work...and they're thinking about taking a break for 3 or 4 months at the end of the year because they want to replace the drummer/bass player/ and quite possible the rhythm guitarist...
we're supposed to audition people starting next week....
i think this is the time to tell them that i'm out at the end of the year (will stick around as long as they need to me but...)
i'm just not having much fun in megahertz, we practice during the week which is hard for me and my job, and i always find myself stressing over getting out of work so i can run through the songs for practice...
the gamma rays practice on sunday which is much less stressful...
what would you guys do?

Do what you feel is the best thing for you. see TJ, i'm 38 years old...and being in megahertz is like having a second job...i thought since i did everything in the gamma rays that being in megahertz would be a break...but it's actually more work for me and my job is getting more demanding during the week... i've never quit a band in my life but i think i need to quit this one...i just want to have fun at shows and now i see shows as a task...

leave the band you don't dig anymore..
I'm startin' to play with a new band now....the drummer was in my current band for a little while (VERY little while)...lol
I was gonna start an all metal cover band with my current singer, drummer and a forumite from another music forum...
BUT, we wouldn't have a bass player..so we'd have to hunt for that...AND we wouldn't have a PA..unless we found a bass player with one...LOL...and quite frankly, around here, nobody would book us doin' the kinda stuff we were talkin' about....savatage, maiden, iced earth..
I was on the fence with this o ther band..but a) I'm the only guitar player which is cool, b) they want me to be agressive in tone and playing which is cool, c) they're professional but laid back...they're all career musicians...they have about 6 things goin' on between the three of them....it's what they do for a living and they're all well connected d) we're already doin' stuff that's been fun...AC/DC, Twisted Sister, Carry on My Wayward Son, we're gonna be doin' boston, VH, some hair metal stuff
I didn' tknow if I was gonna be a good fit for them...but they think I am and it's what they wanted...in the end, I think we're gonna have fun AND make money...neither of which is really goin' on in my current band..LOL...
so look at it that way, vom...if it's stressin' you to be in megahertz, then go through with your plan..don't screw them, just tell them I'm out as of january 1

Why do you need to rehearse every week? Thats enough reason to quit right there.. I'm 35, play in 3 different bands and rehearse MAYBE once a month sometimes not even that... If everyone does their homework theres no need to rehearse if your doing covers. this is my biggest gripe with other musicians. Do your homework, show up, play, quit wasting my time with rehearsal.

I forget what movie it was but there was a good line that said 'sometimes you'll find that having isn't as satisfying as wanting' or something to that effect... it probably looked good on paper, but you either fit or you don't fit...

Are the dudes in megahertz jerks? I would wait 2 weeks and see I felt the same way. If I did, I would state what problems I am having and how to change it. After that they may fire you and you will not have to worry about quitting. TeeHe

It's always good to sit with something for a while before you make a decision. I myself, if I wasn't having fun in a band and it was becoming work I would leave it behind me and never look back.

I wouldn't stress about making it to practice. If your late your late. It would be fair to other guys to tell the other guy where you are at mentally. If I were not having fun, I would drop them like a hot rock. Either way you leave with your head held high.

that's the whole thing...havin' fun? no? leave...don't be a wang about it, but leave gracefully..
my current band stopped bein' fun for me months back..between jerkface bar owners tellin' me to turn down, my bass player drownin' me out completely or gettin' in my way to get to the mic, makin' no money, I had it...
next friday (the 13th..go figure) is our last show...
