Hey shred good to see you go off:) I know what you are saying but we just like to bust b*lls! I appreciate a good shreddin when I hear it and I listen to some of that stuff (if I can stomach the overall music). Heck, I just bought the G3 video with VAi, Satch, and Yngwie a month ago and I have watched probably 4 or 5 times already. Those dudes just amaze me. I do see many guys that have the fast thing down though and have no feel and don't know how to do a bend properly and make it convincing. Its a combinaition of all those things you mentioned that make a great player. I like what jimbax said about some guitarists look like they're having a war with the guitar and the guitar is winning! Craigs video showed he had finnese and control while shredding. That's what I like to see. Its like a race car driver; if your you're going to drive at 200 mph you better learn some darn control! going off is something I do well most times...LOL..glad you didn't take it the wrong way! I know how these things can be misinterpreted over the net... yep, it's all about control..a sloppy SOB like CC deville is an example of how NOT to play the guitar... Kirk Hammet is also a good example of how NOT to play..especially his vibrato... I saw that G3 show in New York..what a blast =D Neil Schon and John Petrucci were there that night too..I wish McAlpine woulda played more guitar though than stayin' in the background on keys =( CC Deville may not be the best guitar player...but he wrote more memorable tunes than kotzen...let's be real

thanks DonaldDemon, thats a great compliment.
I agree with Jim AND Shreder! Yes, both.
My personal view is that vibrato and bends and phrasing is the tell-tale sign of a pro player vs. amateur player. Regardless of your technical skills, the vibrato and bends have to be there and presented with conviction,, and in my case In like to present it with authority and ballz... like SRV, EVH, Friedman, Lynch, etc... BALLLZZZZZ.
...but I agree with shreder too because people that hold players with good technique in low regard either 1)don't have it and most likely 2) never will have it, ... and use it as an excuse to rationalize their own shortcomings as a musician. If you don't like it thats fine, but don't say it sucks just cause its fast or slow. Thats just ignorance plain and simple.

I've seen that video..funny stuff =) so what you're saying is that you actually respect that talentless hack who pretty much started the movement against thought and creativity in music? as someone who 'knew' george lynch and was big into EVH and randy roads and was in the LA rock scene, I find this hard to swallow..... I think something very aggrivating happened in your early musical career back in the day which is where all this venom against people who can actually play comes from....

Mick Mars wrote more memorable songs than Michael Romeo of Symphony X.... this is all in the 'popular' view of things....which means nothing as far as talent is concerned...at least, not in my eyes =) there's two different groups...what is popular and what is good..sometimes they intermingle, but more often than not, one has nothing to do with the other
