I read the same thing about a 'backstreet boy' I can't remember which one (as if I know any of em..) he was trying to sue the production team that put up all that money to train him to dance and teach him how to sing etc...well, he found out that he could make more money if he got out of the contract....he lost the lawsuit!...and rightfully so! man, talk about biting the hand that feeds...HE WAS A NOBODY before they invested in him, and its not like he's poor either!!!...goes like this:.'hey, hey pick me...please pick me...OK, now train me...ok now pay for everything as I go out on tour and make records....ok now pay for all those photo shoots and teeny bopper magazine ads etc...OH, now I'm famous!!! to hell with you 'NOW' I want out of my contract..'NOW' you aren't paying me what I'm worth...wha, wha, wha,....man, talk about shallow ingrates! couldn't wait to be exploited...then, when the act starts to pay off they get greedy and selfish...talk about creating monsters...

Shreder75 says:
Preach on my brother!
There was more to the 80's hard rock/metal than just cheese.I personally love alot of the killer guitar playing that came out then, and would rather hear a good/great guitar player than a hack anyday.
Granted there was a lot of cheesiness , but the press was a huge factor in pushing that. There was and still is a lot of great metal/shred guitar playing going on .
Respect?
To say that CC Deville was a good songwriter is ludicrous.Sorry but I strongly disagree.........
Thank heaven for real musicians still practicing and perfecting their craft. What a sh*tty music scene it would be if we judged greatness by was what is forced down our throats by corporate music biz.i.e radio,MTV etc...
Sorry ,I just had to jump in here.I am totally agreeing with Shreder75 !!!!!!!!
No harm Just my opinion ;D

sheer musicianship? the 'definition' of that term may be more philosophical than most here would be willing to accept...I like music that permeates from one soul to the next...from the 'artist' to the listener...in my opinion 80's big hair music was as shallow and unmemorable a form/style of music that I can think of....maybe bubble gum pop or Disco music are equal in my mind... 80's big hair metal music (for the most part...) was a 'fabrication'.... phoney, image/pose driven bunch of dribble aimed at the mainstream schmoe and designed to 'move units' as they say in the biz...mostly looked at today as a musical anomaly and a laughable joke.... not a 'viable' musical expression. I am sorry if this may offend someone that really likes this style of music...I don't. It is OK to disagree! If you like it, the good news is that you are in the majority on this fan site!

you can say that CC sucks...jumping on that bandwagon...but the guy wrote hit albums...has songs that are still in the public consciousness 20 years after they came out...i'd rather be remembered as a good songwriter than as a richie kotzen...

I just cant take the whole " catagory " and toss it away, there was some great music in the 80's, and there was some very bad music, in the latter years they ( corporate ) went a little wackey, just like they are doing today. run it until its death and the same thing over and over. Guns and Roses came out when "Radio" really needed a good rockin band.
At least CC (and others) made it. I would much rather be a highly paid musician. even by corporate sponsorship, the (corporate) world pays me now anyway.
I went sirius radio for Hair Nation Radio, Rock on.... wonder if XM has that?
now boy george, how does that happen?

You can't just sum up 80's "Hair Bands" and say they all were shallow and unmemorable.C'mon.
Ok.Big poofy hair....
Guns and Roses had it-great rock band/Slash rocks White Lion had it-great guitar player/songwriter Paul Gilbert-no explanation needed Whitesnake Vinnie Moore Yngwie Ozzy/Jake/Zakk etc.....etc......this list goes on and on......
Lots of bands found the Aqua net , there's no doubt. What was pushed was the commercial and palatable pop drivel I think we all would agree is shallow.
Granted alot of music that is "popular", now and then ,sucks and is void of any actual musical worth.
But in the 80's I was listening to what I deemed good music, not what MTV and the radio was cranking out. Like Testament,Metallica,Megadeth,Fates Warning,Iron Maiden ,Yngwie, combined with all the classics(Van Halen,Zep,Scorpions,Sabbath,Ozzy ,etc...) Generally great musicians and awesome guitar players.I really wasn't worried how big their hair was or how brightly colored the outfits were.
I was Not listening to or digging Warrant,Enuff Z Nuff, Pretty Boy Floyd ,Poison etc. Great songs? Great players? I don't think so.But they were on the radio and MTV. This was sold as Metal to mindless twits who didn't know any better. I think that these types of 80's hair bands are exactlly what Jimbax is describing.....
One of my all time faves for cheesiest 80's "metal"-
Madame X "Your High in High School" Now that is some drivel boys and girls.............
