Randy was an awesome player but that tone..ewwwwww! Every song sounds like he's playing out of a 15 watt Crate solid state practice combo! I know I had one:(

Randy was a monster guitar player. I love all the Ozzy albums he did. However, Jake E. Lee is by far my favorite Ozzy guitarist. They're all good in their own right. Just some appeal to others more. i get it...it all makes sense now...driving into work i must've driven through one of those pesky work holes and i'm now in an alternate universe...phew!...i was worried there for a while... Like I said above, Randy was a monster player. There's no denying that. Jake's style appeals more to my liking. I agree with Shredder in that his playing was much more dynamic than Randy's. To each his own ya know!

If were talking tone, you can have Randy's just give me Eric Johnson's. LOL!!! There's no way Jake played circles around Randy. That guy wrote some incredible music. So did Jake and so did Zakk. They're all great players in their own right.

Craig is here and Craig agrees, Jake was a way better player I think. He was way more orginal and certainly had more chops,,, but I love Randy and judging him on only 2 records is not fair to him because I truly believe he would have been a monster by the late 80's even Yngwie level chops, because thats where he was headed.
Randys style was so linear and diatonic too, which made it sound simplistic to me even though I love all his stuff. He didn't have that dancing on the edge out of control thing like EVH or Jake, Lynch etc..
But I'll take The Ultimate Sin as the best Ozzy album hands down for guitar.

I thought Joe Holmes was terrible I saw him once with Ozzy and it was a travesty. He sounded like Ted Nugent trying to pull off Ozzy tunes.,

Ultimate sin has some great guitar work by Jake. "Lightning strikes" The intro bend on the lead is just one of those that makes your hair stand up. Jake definitely has some chops.

lol..no offense dude, but Jake could play circles around randy, AND he had good tone...and his rythms were more creative.. sorry, that's just how I sees it =D don't mess with the guitar ninja.....hiiyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaa...waahhhhhhhhh..... i'm going to pretend that you have a fever or that jake e lee is hovering over you right now with a gun to your head Dudes...dudes....dudes...I was there! BELIEVE ME when I tell you, NOBODY was in EVH's league and NOBODY was in Randy Rhoads league...NOOOO BODY! DeMartini would have laughed if anybody told him he was on a par with RR....Jake E knew he was on sacred ground when he got the Ozzy gig....etc...these guitar players went on to develop into better players AFTER the guy died...sure! even I'm a better player than Randy NOW!....but that isn't fair to the context of the day...

What about a studio cat named Larry Carlton or a guy from Nashville named Jerry Reed or how bout that dude from Austin Texas named Eric Johnson. They were around also during that time.
