donalddemon, not to be a d1ck, but if you really think EVH was a gimmicky guitarist, you have ALOT to learn about music, the guitar, technique and musicianship in general. Of course your opinion on not liking it is fine, but gimmicky is a bad choice of words... and makes you sound kinda ignorant.
I'm not a fan of Hendrix, but he wrote great tunes and played some great bluesrock stuff especially for that time period. I own alot of his stuff and like it.
Was he overrated? Probably considering John Mclaughlins overlooked playing in the 60's along with guys like Albert King and even Jeff Beck, Phil Keaggy etc, who were playing circles around Hendrix both musically and technically.

you did that with my amp picture too,splawn..you have a great command of photoshop as I can see... LMFAO do I think hendrix was overrated? good question..do I like him? nope.....I don't really care for his style....then again, i don't like much from that point in time... same with jimmy paige...I can appreciate the song writing, even though I don't like zepplin...but to be perfectly honest, I don't care for either of these two.. THAT BEING SAID THOUGH, gotta look at the time they were playing and what else was goin' on..these guys strayed from the norm and took music into new areas...so for that, I appreciate the innovation... all i have is MS paint here

the guitar gods in the sky are not happy to hear of this talk! screaming distorted feedback, wailing effects.. he put together a combination that was unheard of back then. There is always someone that plays better, no matter when in time. look at the guitarist in the 50's, there was some very good players that never got the credit. they did some amazing stuff with the electric guitar. like the guitarist for Johnny Cash.. what was his name??? all I remember is " hit it Carl"
