No you didn't! Sorry splawnfan, Hendrix is my inspiration for guitar so I have to disagree. I know he wasn't technically amazing a very sloppy live but he had a feel like no other. The sloppiness comes along with being creative and not being afraid to experiment during alive show. That, and being really really high . I have found to most shredders he does not impress but that's expected. I just don't think there will everbe anyone like him again. Not to start an arguement but...I think EVH was overrated . I think he was a "gimmick" guitarist. I do give him props for being original and influencing music in the 80's but he just seemed to taylor the solos on to fit his dive-bar and harmonics type solos. Sorry guys, just my opinion though

you did that with my amp picture too,splawn..you have a great command of photoshop as I can see...
LMFAO
do I think hendrix was overrated? good question..do I like him? nope.....I don't really care for his style....then again, i don't like much from that point in time...
same with jimmy paige...I can appreciate the song writing, even though I don't like zepplin...but to be perfectly honest, I don't care for either of these two..
THAT BEING SAID THOUGH, gotta look at the time they were playing and what else was goin' on..these guys strayed from the norm and took music into new areas...so for that, I appreciate the innovation...

I respect your opinion, donald..but to overlook eddy's song writing just to talk about his leads is really an injustice..there's another thread in here going on about the same thing..
the leads served the songs....his song writing is friggin' fantastic...
not only that, the whammy stuff and whatnot...I agree that some players use it as a gimmick..but tapping, tapped harmonics, dive bombs..that was eddy's STYLE..not just somethign he could do for the sake of doing it...
I still can't get over that people let his leads overshadow his rocking rythms...
I understand that not everythign's for everyone..
but look at songs like House of Pain, Top Jimmy, Girl Gone Bad, Panama, just about the entirety of the first album...I just don't get it..

Even thoughhe used alot of gimmicks, he was the first to use alot of them to that extent. I still don't like him though:)

Controversy !! hahah I think you would appreciate it more if you where there at that time. at that point in history he wasnt over rated. he was one of the few. he brough us the killer sounds of the marshalls etc.. got to give him credit..
Music lore suggests the phrase "heavy metal" was first used by a New York Times journalist attempting to describe Jimi Hendrix's bombastic tone as "heavy metal falling from the sky" is how the unidentified writer put it. While Hendrix deserves artistic credit for creating the tone, it was actually the single-channel Marshall JCM800 2203 that defined the specific heavy metal timbre. This amplifier, with its flesh peeling attack and wicked crunch, set guitarists' ears and imaginations on fire
