I think Eddies best playing from a technical and strictly creative guitar standpoint was 1984.
Girl Gone Bad, rhythms and solos,, unreal Hot For Teacher, classic. House of Pain, heavies VH ever? Top Jimmy, just weird and totally orginal. Solo on Jump, fantastic. Panama, stompin classic rocker. Drop Dead legs, Alan Holdsworth on crack? Awesome outtro solo and groove.

'Push Comes to Shove' is his best solo IMO (IceCream Man second...)....come on now..listen to the first two albums then listen to anything else after and there is a NOTICEABLE and MAJOR drop-off in energy...

The Ice Cream man lick is super easy. Its a symmetrical descending pattern and a blues shuffle solo. Everything off that first record is much easier to me.
Push Comes to Shove is an awesome solo, I agree... but I defy anyone to play the ascending legato stuff in Drop Dead legs.

yeah, I know the wide interval lick to Ice Cream Man (same pattern)...I've never heard Drop Dead Legs...I'll listen...then probably agree...
I never confuse a GOOD solo with a HARD TO PLAY solo...I don't care how hard it is to play....it has to fit the song and bring some excitement otherwise let the trombone player have a whack at it...

Once Eddie started getting all this attention as a 'guitar god' he had all this pressure to come up with 'new' creative ideas to 'blow us away' ...I wish he would have just played the guitar...instead he's bringing out a drill.....I never approached the guitar from a 'guitar hero' stand point...that isn't why I play...I like the energy and the 'vibe'....everything else is just DISTRACTION...I think Eddie became a 'victim of distraction' bunch of ego crud...

welp...we're different in what we like...that's acceptable...I'm not an 'Ed fiend' I can't really play like he does (convincingly anyways...) I know I'm in the minority here...

Some of the things that always blew me away about ed was the sense of humor in his playing as well as his sense of timing. I love the solo in Hang em high! Just hilarious! I seem to have Ed's feel in my playing but I was never one to be able to play other players chops well. I can cop some VH stuff rythem wise but the solo stuff is to complex for me to figure out. It kind of amazes me how some players can actually pull of other players solo stuff unless its on the slow side where you can make out the phrasing. Fast chops are to difficult for me to make out. Besides like most players I found a few different chops and licks that I played constantly over the years and its hard to break that pattern. I guess if you practice different scale exersises regularly and stick with it it will eventually come. I have lost some dexterity over the years to do strain in my wrists from the god dam computer. Based on VH's recent tour he seems to have lost all his dexterity. I mean he could barely play his own sh!t.....

I can play Yngwie and Zakk Wylde licks all day long. Its boring and easy. Play a Lynch or a VH style and now you got some work to do. ..but for the record, I LOVE Yngwie too.
