Well, I have a story for you, I just sold all my gear to buy a splawn.I sold two heads and two cabs. I was lookig for a quickrod second hand but i could not find one in my price range(at the time) So I found on ebay a splawn modded marshall 1987x for $1000.00 and I was wanting one so badly that I went ahead and bought it. Well the guy I bought it from totally ripped me off.... I got the amp and nothing worked..you hve to flip the mains swith like a hundred times and then it will come on,and then when you take it off standyby it goes off, when you can get it running it just squeals the whole time, none of the eq knobs work, and all the notes cut out as soon as you hit them. I don't know what the guy did to it? I found out that the whole time I was talking to him it was his wife pretending to be him,and she kept saying that it was the shipping. And get this after I threatened ti get a laywer,he sends me a thing saying that his wife sold me the wrong amp and that it wasn't working and all this other B.S. So he says he can refund my money. So i'm like great...well he was just feeding me a line,so I mailed him and waited and no response,no money back. This guy is a total conartist. It sucks cause now I have no amp and I teach guitar full time. My wife and I are moving tomorrow to Ohio from tennessee and I have to pay a ton of money for our new place and the move. I was going to buy the orange quickrod off will boggs but I had to back out(and I feel terrible! sorry again will.)See,I wasn't expecting to move so soon. Anyway the amp is for sale in the "splawn for sale" forum..I put it up for sale before I recieved the amp,I thought I was gonna need the money..so just to clarify it does not work at all...and I am sorry for posting it. Do you guys think that scott could fix it? I know he makes the best amps in the world! and this guy totally made me look like a fool in front of my students..I had been telling them about splawn amps for a while now... SO if anyone has any advice about the amp please let em know. Super sorry for this long rant. I'm just having a had time with it..guitar is my life ya know... Oh and th guy i got the amp of off just laughed and told me he ust bought a new quickrod!

That seller is a Richard Cabeza! Don't worry. Karma will get that jerk. Don't you mean: "Ricardo?" Man, that's a horrible story. I was having that debate amongst myself - new or used. I decided to go new because I was worried about this very thing. Well, I agree, Karma will get 'im in the end. Hope your story ends up with a happy ending.

Ouch,
Stuff like that will make you hate people.
Fuzzhead,
I have learned sometimes it is best just to buy exactly what you want and pay the cost up front. Stories like yours break my heart. I have been riped off on ebay (I assume you bought it off ebay) as well. If anyone has a question about an amp maybe you should post something on Splawn forum or email Scott before bidding/buying.

Fuzzhead We have just figured out this deal. The amp that you bought is the same amp that we listed in the fake Splawn thread. This is a Torres modded amp. The guy that you bought it from sent it to us to be modded, however after we found that it had already been modded by Torres we let him know. He then ordered an amp from us and we sent the Marshall back to him untouched. Sorry for the trouble, give us a call at the shop so we can talk more. Tree....

Hey everyone.... Here is the e-mail from the theif that sold me the splawn. I had sent about 10 e-mails to him before I got this one,his wife was pretending to be him. He said it was a misunderstanding...(keep in mind...that I just found out that he sent this amp to splawn to be modded ,they called him told him that it had already been modded and they would not touch it.They sent it back to him and informed him it was torres modded) I bought the amp off ebay andhe ended the austion early for me. It had 7 or 8 pictures and full discription of the amp. So why would he have all these pictures and information if it was just a big misunderstanding? and MOST importantly...where is my refund if everything he said was true. I just want you guys to know that I wasn't trying to rip anyone on this forum off. Here is the message............. Hey man this is Dale Hopson not his wife. I have been in Mississippi for two weeks and when I came home all hell has broke loose. For one thing, she doesn't know anything about amps. I told her to sell my amp and she thought she did right but she didn't. She sold you the wrong amp for the wrong price. She was supposed to sell my Splawn quickrod 100 watt for 1600.00 but instead she sold my old plexi 50 watt for 1000.00. If I had been here none of this would have happened. Don't panic and don't worry everything will be fine. By no means is anyone going to rip you off. I have a splawn quickrod 100 watt amp it is bran spankin new I paid 1850.00 for it and am going to sell it for 1600.00. I can either send you back your money or we can make a deal on this amp. whatever you do do not let anything happen to the amp you have. It has tone you wouldn't believe when working properly. I had planned on having it restored soon. If you want a genuine Splawn quickrod I have a new one still in the box. I only took it out to see how it sounds and then put it right back. It is in absolutely perfect condition. It really sounds like the sample clips too as hard as that is to believe. Scott Splawn has it goin on with the brown sound. However I am a vintage amp man and thought it was what I wanted but it is just too loud for my taste. 50 watts is all I can handle. After 30 years of guitar playing I am almost deaf. I know your upset and I would be to but don't worry we'll get it strait. if you want to make a deal on this amp with the money you have already sent and maybe 400.00 more. I'll take that amp back (definitely). then we'll work something out. Either way I am going to sell it anyway and I doubt I 'll have any trouble at that price especially being new. Now if we do make a deal I will meet you in Tenn close to where you live because after this little occurrence I want everything face to face so you know what your getting without any doubt. I myself have been screwed on equipment before and it aint cool. You have to overlook my wife man she didn't know. she thought she was giving you a good deal. Well anyway man don't worry your in good hands so let me know what you want to do. Take good care of my baby cause if that amp was working right you damn sure wouldn't want to let go of it. Let me

Fuzz, Although we feel what your going through, I don't think anyone here would feel they have a place in this issue.. I could be wrong. I really don't think it would be a good idea to have strangers emailing this guy.. it would probably piss him off. With that said, I'm wondering if you ever got around to calling Tree at Scott's shop as mentioned above.. It sounds like they want to help you get the modded Marshall fixed, and I bet they would give you a good deal. Looks like the only other options you have are to meet this guy and exchange the amp for the money you sent, Or give him a little more cash and get ahold of that Quick Rod he's got. Seems pretty cut & dry to me.

You missed the point.... I tried to do that...I tried to meet him or exchange the money for the amp..... HE IS LYING. It wasn't a mix up... Nevermind....you are right I just need to forget it. I am gonna ship the amp back to him with a message to shove it up his ass. If someone can delete this thread that would be great. Thanks
