Fuzzhead This is a Torres modded amp. The guy that you bought it from sent it to us to be modded, however after we found that it had already been modded by Torres we let him know. Hey Guys; Just to let you all know, stay away from the Torres mods. He modded a nice mid-70's fawn Marshall for me, and ruined it. He is relatively local to me, and when I called his shop to get some info on his "Brown Sound" Marshall mod, he really talked it up and had me sold. I drove my amp to him the next day, dropped the $500 he wanted for the mod, and then waited, and waited, and waited............ Finally after an eternity, I was able to pick the amp up, but when I got there he was in a hurry to get somewhere, so I grabbed the amp and left. I got it home and plugged it in, hooked up my ESP Firebird, switched off the standby, and what the hell is that hiss? Turned the volume up on the guitar and SQUEAL!!!!!!! At usable volumes this thing fed back like nothing I ever heard. New tubes too, so I was wondering what was up. Used my 65 SG too and the same thing. I was pissed. I called the guy up, and he was like "Well it is a high gain amp now". He offered to take the mod out for another couple of hundred dollars, but I passed. A friend of mine had some John Suhr modded Marshalls that he had me listen to, and they were great, with none of the issues that the Torres mod had. I called John, sent him the amp, and he fixed the Torres mod and put in his lead mod; excellent!!!! Stay away from Torres. Just buy the Splawn.

BTW, I did have one of Scott's Marshall mods, and it was amazing. Clean, OD 1 and 2, solo boost. It rocked, but in a moment of weakness, I sold it (Story of my life). Quickrod is now on the way.

Hey rockerjt, how would you compare the splawn and the suhr's tone? That's a toughie, as they were definitely two different animals. The Suhr was more compressed, tight sounding, and definitely more forgiving to the sloppy player (like me). I loved the tone. I actually have a great reference. One of the Suhr's I had was one I got from Tommy Skeoch (ex-Tesla). He played it on their cover of Led Zeps "The Ocean". That is a very good idea of what it sounds like, as that song was not overly produced/processed. I think the Suhr mods (I prefer the "lead" mod) do not have as much definition as the Splawn. With the Splawn I can hear every note I pick (good and bad), and it seems a bit more open. The tone to me is incredible, and the amp is very flexible, as I can get a good classic rock sound, or I can go to metal no problem. Great brown sound, but I play nothing like Eddie, so I don't sound like I am copping the VH thing when I play one. The Suhr is a bit one dimensional (I played with several amps when I was using it). I just ordered a Quickrod a week or so ago instead of getting another one of Johns amps, so that should tell you something. Not that I wouldn't get another one if I had the cash and the time to wait for one, but I think the Quickrod will cover all my bases at this point.

Did you use the postal service for any part of the transaction? If that's the case, he's guilty of mailfraud. Go to your local postmaster and call the cops. Good Luck, Brad

Hey. I remember this fella. I emailed my law enforcement contact at Ebay about this guy. He was advertising an all black plexi style Quickrod with gold controls and if I remember right he was in Joppa Alabama (it just kinda stood out to me since the cities name was Joppa). I thought seriously about purchasing it since I was in the market for one and really didn't want to wait months to get one. I emailed the seller to feel them out and see if they were for real and asked some questions about the amp only a true owner would know. I asked about the gears and where the guitar input is located (older or newer model) and other Splawn specific questions, new clean channel, etc. I got a very short answer something like "it is 100 watts" or "it is brand new". Did not answer my question at all. I smelled a rat and sent the auction number to Ebay for them to look into it further. I didn't hear amything back and the ad disappeared. This may be the same guy (or girl) that you dealt with. Unfortuantly most Ebay transactions are civil in nature when there are issues like the item was not exactly as described, didn't work, etc. Someone advsertising an item and then selling it only for that person to be sent a photo of the item or not delivering it at all is criminal and I could assist you. Yes, I have had a case where a person did not read the fine print on the ad and was sent a picture of a laptop for $550.00 because they did not read the fine print on the ad that stated "this is an auction for a picture of the listed laptop only". The suspect was out of my jurisdiction, so I forwarded the information to the proper authorities and didn't here if they made an arrest or not. I wish I could help ya with your issue, but unfortunantly it is civil in nature. DON'T SEND THE DUDE THE AMP BACK THOUGH. Also if he is willing to meet you to make an exchange make sure you have a buddy with you or even alert the local SO. It's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck bro.

Hey everyone.... Here is the e-mail from the theif that sold me the splawn. I had sent about 10 e-mails to him before I got this one,his wife was pretending to be him. He said it was a misunderstanding...(keep in mind...that I just found out that he sent this amp to splawn to be modded ,they called him told him that it had already been modded and they would not touch it.They sent it back to him and informed him it was torres modded) I bought the amp off ebay andhe ended the austion early for me. It had 7 or 8 pictures and full discription of the amp. So why would he have all these pictures and information if it was just a big misunderstanding? and MOST importantly...where is my refund if everything he said was true. I just want you guys to know that I wasn't trying to rip anyone on this forum off. Here is the message............. Hey man this is Dale Hopson not his wife. I have been in Mississippi for two weeks and when I came home all hell has broke loose. For one thing, she doesn't know anything about amps. I told her to sell my amp and she thought she did right but she didn't. She sold you the wrong amp for the wrong price. She was supposed to sell my Splawn quickrod 100 watt for 1600.00 but instead she sold my old plexi 50 watt for 1000.00. If I had been here none of this would have happened. Don't panic and don't worry everything will be fine. By no means is anyone going to rip you off. I have a splawn quickrod 100 watt amp it is bran spankin new I paid 1850.00 for it and am going to sell it for 1600.00. I can either send you back your money or we can make a deal on this amp. whatever you do do not let anything happen to the amp you have. It has tone you wouldn't believe when working properly. I had planned on having it restored soon. If you want a genuine Splawn quickrod I have a new one still in the box. I only took it out to see how it sounds and then put it right back. It is in absolutely perfect condition. It really sounds like the sample clips too as hard as that is to believe. Scott Splawn has it goin on with the brown sound. However I am a vintage amp man and thought it was what I wanted but it is just too loud for my taste. 50 watts is all I can handle. After 30 years of guitar playing I am almost deaf. I know your upset and I would be to but don't worry we'll get it strait. if you want to make a deal on this amp with the money you have already sent and maybe 400.00 more. I'll take that amp back (definitely). then we'll work something out. Either way I am going to sell it anyway and I doubt I 'll have any trouble at that price especially being new. Now if we do make a deal I will meet you in Tenn close to where you live because after this little occurrence I want everything face to face so you know what your getting without any doubt. I myself have been screwed on equipment before and it aint cool. You have to overlook my wife man she didn't know. she thought she was giving you a good deal. Well anyway man don't worry your in good hands so let me know what you want to do. Take good care of my baby cause if that amp was working right you damn sure wouldn't want to let go of it. Let me Reading this guys response Fuzz....hes got BROWN eyes, he's full of SH!T! In response he blames his wife, ahhh no he didint do anything in this email, Ive dealt with people like this before, scammer, true and true. Get Scott to turn the amp into a modded beast. He wont sell it either, I doubt if he has a quickrod?? Wow, that emails smells like....Douch- >:(bag.
