Can anyone give me some info on the Splawn 2x12 cab's loaded with celestions? Do they compare to to other cab's are they better and why? Do they project well? Are they close to a 4x12 sound?? If anyone can tell me how do the splawn 2x12's sound with a Pro Mod head? I am looking to get a smaller cab for my Pro Mod. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just got a red 2-12 from Scott and its friggin awesome. There is hardly any audible difference between this and the 4-12, and it actually sounds BETTER and has more bottom than my Marshall 4-12. Great for smaller clubs! I love it:

Hey Craig, Thanks for the reply. Your 2x12 looks great! I have always had a better sound with a 2x12 cab, the definition and low end is better IMHO. What speakers are you using? I have to tell you that your sound clips of the Splawn QR are great, they helped me decide to buy one of the amps... well I am now on my second Splawn head. I had a Splawn loaded Marshall SLP1959, now a Pro Mod with KT88's. Best regards, Ian

Cool man thanks ... both cabs are loaded with the Eminence Redcoat 30's and Patriot 75's. I like them better than the brighter Celestions. Alot easier on the ears and they enable me to turn the amp up a bit more on stage.

Craig- You have one governor and one patriot in your 2x12?
I am looking for speakers now. I want huge tight bottom end with very warm mids and highs. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards the governors or maybe celestion vintage 30's or G12H30's. What do you guys think? Maybe I should just go with a 2x12 instead pf the 4x12. All I know is that my marshall 4x12 with the the celestion 65's is waaaaay too bright and has no bottom end.

I got my Splawn 2x12 horizontal cab in black tolex, salt & pepper Basket Weave grill, silver piping. Loaded with Celestions 1 G12T75 and 1 G12H30 and it is absolutely amazing!! Matches up great with my PM! Very happy with the cab, it will give most 4x12's a good run.

I know it sounds weird, but I actually prefer the Eminence. They have a bit more natural compression especially on the top end. The bottom is really clearly defined too. I also have a Marshall loaded with 65's and it sounds OK, but not as good as Scotts cab with the Eminence. I also did a gig about 2 months ago where I shared a stage with some other bands. I used my buddy's vintage greenback loaded Marshall cab,, again I still liked the Eminence better.

I talked to Scott about the speakers and he said the same thing Craig. He likes the eminence more than the celestions.

Scott has a great ear for tone and this 2x12 is great! I have not had the chance to try the red coat eminence speakers, would like the opportunity but... I have had and tried other amps and cabs with Eminence and they don't seem to have the same feel as the Celestions. I have been using Celestion for over 20 years, I am probably going deaf by now so I stuck with what works for me and they sound great!

I will agree with Craig, Scotts cabs are top notch! The Emminence Speakers sound fantastic in my Splawn 4x12. They do give you the ability to crank without splitting an ear drum in half. Lots of low end and the mids sound great! On the other hand, I play my Pro Mod through a Mojave Cab with G12H30s and it is just amazing. It reminds me of the old school hard rock like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. Gets closer to the Van Halen thing to......if that is what you are after! I went and saw Tesla last week and my Pro Mod pumped through the Mojave cab gets Frank Hannons new tone.......even though he is playing the Modern Vintage stuff! I think the Quick Rod would be a lot closer though cause of the EL34s.

So heres a funny story... this past Thursday and Friday I had a gig at club in Winter Garden.... and My wife was out of town on business. I usually pack all my gear into her SUV, its one of those Jeep Libertys right... so shes gone and I got my little wrangler with a bikini top on it and no room for any gear right? So All I had room for was the 2-12 and I played both nights with it.
It sounded fantastic. That was the first gig I used the 2-12 on. ... the guys in the band couldn't believe how much sound I was getting from 2 speakers.

Hey Craig!! That does it! I was torn between a 2-12 or 4-12. Sounds like a QR and a 2-12 with one H30 and a Red Coat. I'll just have to take it easy on the speakers! Thanks for your input! Keep it up! Rick

I didn't even notice this forum area before =) I was just asking a bunch of questions on various forums about 2x12 and 4x12 splawn cabinets...
since I like to type, I'll tell my story again..lol...
first off, I don't have a QR yet, but I'll be getting one soon...those things tear...anyway, right now I have a B-52 AT-100 and a Genz Benz G-Flex 2x12..I heard alotta good thigns on harmony central about it and whatnot, so I decided to buy one...
now, here's the situation..when I'm sitting on the floor, it sounds pretty good...when I'm sitting in my computer chair or standing up, it sounds horrible...really boomy, no articulation....palm muting is horrible..loses all definition and the bottom end gets flabby and round..WTF....
I used to have the 4x12 thing going on back in the day when I wasn't gigging and I didn't have to move stuff around...I did notice some tonal changes when I would change my position, but nothing near as drastic as what I hear now...so it got me wondering..is it my amp? (sounded great in the store through the b-52 4x12..that was a full stack and only the top half was running)..is it the cabinet? the much famed and touted gflex used by mr. scary himself (at one time)? or is it the fact that it's a 2x12 cabinet?
it's been driving me up a d**n wall...because while I like being lazy and playing while I'm on the floor, I'd like to be able to get up and wander around or sit in my computer chair, doin' some surfing without it sounding like utter crap...
I'd like to get a 2x12 if possible..if not for the price, but for the fact that it's easier to cart around for gigs..I'd only mic one speaker (as alotta guys do) so I don't think it would make that much of a difference for live or even recording purposes...I just wanna make sure that it's not gonna sound like dump when I'm in my room..sitting, standing, whatever...
~~edit
Craig, I just noticed that yours is sitting on top of your 4x12..does getting it off the floor make a difference? maybe that's the problem I'm having with my g flex? mine's just on the floor right now

Well sure, theres always a difference when raising the cab off the floor. But this cab has never left that spot. I have another one I used at a show (identical) and it was on the floor and sounded great. You read my emails though,, LOL I never had those problems you mentioned before.. but I've never used a Genz Benz
