welp, I talked to mr. splawn..emailed him..got back to me in under ten minutes....
anywho, said my problem was because of the bass ports on the GB cab..which makes sense..base, as we all know, is non directional and just explodes all over the room...thus, unless you're sitting in front of the speakers as well, you're gonna hear tons of bass....which involves teh flub factor...
I think I ran into the same problem with my line 6 open back as well..only not to the same extent..because that was OPEN backed...so the bass from the back just exploaded all over the room...
said I won't have a problem with the 2x12, cuz they're closed and not ported....my verdict will be in once I make the long trek up to north jersey to try out the QR and 2x12

OK guys, I got an amazing deal on four Celestion G12H30's. I'll let you know how the Quick Rod sounds through the cab when I get them in in a week or so.

Well I don't like treble or harsh bitey midrange at all. I was looking for Celestion G12H30's or Eminence Red Coat Governors. They have tight bottom end, warm midrange, and fairly subdued highs. If you don't hate treble like I do, I'd go with one G12H30 and a 75 watt Celestion, or the Eminence Combo of a Governor and their version of the 75 watt celestion (which for $50 less is the way to go since Scott and Craig both like the Eminence better anyway).
I read that Eric Johnson uses the G12H30's in a Marshall 4x12. I like a little more treble than that so they should work for me. I found a deal on the celestions before I found a deal on the governor's so I went that route.

I'm definetly diggin' the sound that craig's gettin' outta the eminence combination...
I don't 'hate' treble, but I don't like things to sound like an ice pick either =D which is why I'm gonna steer away from vintage 30's..those are way too bright for my liking...
i do like the tight bottom end and I like a smooth mid range....don't like things to sound too honky...
these are all things I'll have to discuss with scott when I call him..which'll be sooner than I thought, considering the wife gave me 'permission' to go ahead and order the amp..muahahahah...first I wanna try that one out in north jersey when the dealer gets it in though..just to be sure! and if I dig the speakers that are in the 2x12 he's got, I'll just go with that...
as an aside, I wonder if it would cost me extra to get the Quick Rod in a pro mod case?

I think Scott's clips were done on a Marshall 4x12 with Two Celestion G12H30's and Two Celestion 75's. Craigs first clip or two may have been on a Marshall with Celestion 65 watters in it. His latest clip may be his Splawn cab with Eminence speakers though. You may want to double check so you know what speakers you are hearing on those particular clips.

I'm pretty sure that the latest clip was with the 2x12 loaded with the Eminence..and I dig that sound more than the marshall cab he used previously...

Only this clip was recorded with the Splawn/Eminence/Mansel combo: hair-metal.com/tunes/aede.mp3I told Scott not to put it on the site cause its not finished and not very good really,, but the sound is pretty tight. I'm having PC issues so am unable to complete any clips right now.
