Just wondering if anyone can answer a question I have about the Pro Stock that I am considering buying.
How does the OD1/OD2 mode work? Can it only be accessed by using the footswitch? Is there a mode switch that will allow you to choose OD1/OD2 in each gear on the amp?
Many thanx in advance for your help.

Yes OD1 & 2 are only available via the footswitch. On the Pro Stock the gears are footswitchable between 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd depending on how you have the switch set on the amp (can't switch between 1st and 3rd from the footswitch) with OD1 and 2 footswitchable in each gear.

It basically sounds like everything I'm looking for. Any suggestions on speaker configuration for the cabinet? I'm going for the brown sound on steriods and typically I use heavy duty high watt speakers so they don't buzz or distort too much.
Also I'm used to running my 50watt Lee Jackson with the preamp set at 25% and the master set at 90%. Do you use more preamp and less master with this amp? I don't plan to run a 100W at 90% but maybe 40%-50% so the KT88s cook nicely. Again any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

You'll get alot of different opinions on the best speakers for Splawns on this board. Lots of guys swear by greenbacks but they're just not for me. I run my Splawn thru an older Mesa 4X12 with Celestion custom 90 watters and love it. I also have a Randall Isolation cab that I use for recording w/ a single Celestion V30 in it. Most here don't like the V30's but I've been getting some pretty good results outta mine. As for pre-amp and power amp volumes I think that's way too subjective as to what the tone in your head is but the Pro Stock is pretty versitile and you shouldn't have a problem finding your beefed-up Brown tones in it. Also your power tubes will makes a difference too, I went with the Mullard EL34s since that's what I think of for hot-rod Marshall tone. I am curious to try the KT88s myself though. Might even be another Splawn in my future with 'em. Good luck with your choice. It basically sounds like everything I'm looking for. Any suggestions on speaker configuration for the cabinet? ;D I like the greenback re-issues best in a straight 4-12 cab with my Pro-stock. I also have the Mullard 34's. I really like the clips Supercharged puts up running the v-30's, I'm not sure how he does it??? But they are awesome. I do have an identical straight 4-12 cab with v-30's in it, but I have it in use with a different amp head and I am going to use it with a new head I just got in today. I like what the scumbacks give you in tone, I just have not had the kinda of money left to buy them that they cost. I am kinda curious about what Supercharged is getting from a tone standpoint from those speakers in the old Mesa cab. Those things always did tote their own. HMMMMMM! ;D Welcome to the world of [ I will have to figure it out.] GOODLUCK.

Thanx for the info, I'm thinking about the Man O War and Govnr mix. I usually use the Celestion 75 watt speakers. I had Greenbacks in the past and I didn't really care for them, they just got too buzzy sounding when I drove them hard. I'll keep you guys up to date when I green light to order the amp.

personally i would stay away from the eminence... i had them in my first splawn cab and didnt like them - swapped them out for 75 watt celestions.
my main cab is a splawn with two 75 watt celestions and two 25 watt g12h heritage celestions. the g12s have a lower 66 hz bass reponse which gives the cab a great 3d sound.

what's up guys...Found Splawn in guitar World and and I want one. I have no idea which one to get. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out a little bit. I have a 50 Mesa Rectoverb right now - which is ok but i need something a little more versatile, and my taste is moving away from the Mesa sound. I love the sound on the clips from Supercharged...and also the Zack Rosica clean sound. Here's the main issue: Can the Quick rod do what the Pro mod does, and can the pro stock get those same tones? Are they all similar, or very different? I get that the pro stock only has 2 channels (correct?). Can you get a good clean and nice dirty sound you can switch between on the pro stock? if so, that's my amp. Or do I need to move to pro mod/quick rod? What's the difference on those? From the sound clips I'm leaning towards a pro mod. Does the half power switch modify the tone considerably? Then I read all the stuff on the V30's, what's the deal? Supercharged is sounding good with those...I have a 2X12 VHT cab with v'30's that I really like - I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. Oh, and where's the general sweet spot on the splawns? Not dimed I hope. Thanks guys for putting up with a newbie.

Hey scoobrock, the pro stock is single channel, the quickrod has a clean channel as well, and the pro mod is the same as the quickrod but with kt88 tubes which gives a different tone. I have v30's and I don't like them with my splawn, planning on replacing them, they're harsh and brittle. They splawn sounds good in lower volumes as well, 8:00-8:30, but it really starts to open up above 9:00.

Thanks for the info loosecannon. I play in some small places (practice spot being one of them)...I don't want to have to dime everything to get that tone. Didn't seem the case but wanted to ask.

Hey Scoobrock,
I, too, found the different options confusing at first. Scott needs to put up a little chart so you can compare side-by-side. Here's how I see 'em
Two-Channel Amps: Quickrod (EL34 100/50w), Pro-Mod (KT88 120/60w) Single-Channel Amps: Pro Stock (EL34 100/50w), Competition (EL34 50/25w)
The single-channel amps do not have a dedicated clean channel. The two-channel amps have dedicated clean channels. The Pro Stock and the Competition are identical except for the power difference.
The Pro-Stock, QR, and Comp can be modified by a reputable tech to KT77s. They can be modified by Splawn to KT88. But, a QR with KT88s is really just a Pro-Mod.
All the models have the 3 gears, 2 ODs, Solo boost, and effects loop.
I cannot speak to the differences in the 100w/50w, but I can say most definitely that there is a difference with the Competition's 50/25w settings. 50 is more aggressive and 25 sounds smoother to my ears. I am personally digging 25 watts lately for playing at home. Both settings are great, just different, which I think is a very unique feature to the Comp.

Coo thanks jammermatt. Looks like I am looking at a pro mod or quick rod. I need to the 2 channel amp. I've been trying to get a hold of someone at splawn...but I work til 5 or later, everyone is gone by then I guess. I appreciate the insight. Lots of info and I appreciate it. Looks like I am leaning at a pro mod...due to the separate channels.
