Thanks for the props bro. You can't go wrong with a Splawn (hey, I sound like a commercial or something...) Have fun narrowing down your choice.

supercharged - I'm having fun dude, but wish I could play through the amps - then I would know for sure. Know what I mean? From what everyone has told me so far - you can get the same type of tone from all 3 amps I mentioned ...is that your take? I don't need a ton of gain, just killer tone which is what I hear from the sound clips. Oh, and does rolling off the gain help out with the V30's?

The V30 thing has more to do with some midrange frequencies most around here don't dig. I can EQ my way around it most of the time at any gain setting. Live I'm using an old Mesa half-back cab (sealed) w/ Celestion C90's. I do like it better than my V30 loaded Mesa cab I have but I could use the other cab if I had to no prob. The Splawn has plenty of gain on tap but it isn't fuzzy saturated gain like a Recto or 5150. Much smoother, rounder tone to me. All Scott's current amps have the same basic preamp voicings so they will sound simillar, although different power tubes can make a pretty dramatic difference (I use Mullard EL34s BTW). Let us know what you decide. BTW I here Rock Solid amps out of Florida has a 48 hour window where you can return the amp if you don't dig it. Might be an option for you.

Went with the Quick Rod with EL34's...Talked to Josh @ Splawn and he was cool. I'm sold on the EL34's - I can always go for the KT77's if I need to. If I absolutely have to I can swap out the V30's with a G12H/G12T75 combo I guess...now the waiting begins. Although I may have lucked out with the dealer in OH...might only be a couple of weeks. But still waiting to confirm. Anyone need a 2002 50 watt Rectoverb head?!?! heh-heh

Hey Scoobrock, I, too, found the different options confusing at first. Scott needs to put up a little chart so you can compare side-by-side. Here's how I see 'em Two-Channel Amps: Quickrod (EL34 100/50w), Pro-Mod (KT88 120/60w) Single-Channel Amps: Pro Stock (EL34 100/50w), Competition (EL34 50/25w) kt The single-channel amps do not have a dedicated clean channel. The two-channel amps have dedicated clean channels. The Pro Stock and the Competition are identical except for the power difference. The Pro-Stock, QR, and Comp can be modified by a reputable tech to KT77s. They can be modified by Splawn to KT88. But, a QR with KT88s is really just a Pro-Mod. All the models have the 3 gears, 2 ODs, Solo boost, and effects loop. I cannot speak to the differences in the 100w/50w, but I can say most definitely that there is a difference with the Competition's 50/25w settings. 50 is more aggressive and 25 sounds smoother to my ears. I am personally digging 25 watts lately for playing at home. Both settings are great, just different, which I think is a very unique feature to the Comp. kt 77's are the same as EL34'S. Just need to rebias. kt88 are different. Need to see a qaulify tech to change resistor & swap tubes over.
