Okay here is the ones I have played it through. Celestion: V30 (eh) G12-T75 (well broken in) not bad G12M greenies (really sweet, but low power and early break up kinda defeats the purpose of the Nitro) Eminence: Texas Heats (strong, strong, strong) ;D Governors (I like these) Splawn: Big blocks (kinda bland and woofy) Small blocks 65s (I'm on the fence with these) Out of all the speakers I have played it through at low and high volumes, the Texas Heats took everything the Nitro could dish out and have a nasty grind/crunch. They are super loud. The Govenors are really close in my opinion also. I think the Governors have a more pronounced upper mid which wouldn't be a bad thing X'd with Heats. The winner is (my opinion of course based on the style of music I play-modern chugga chugga metal/rock) *Texas Heats* ;D

which small blocks did you try? 25s or 65s?
im still loving my nitro through my gov/mow cab the best. going to be doing some speaker experimenting tonight...specifically the gov/sb25 x pattern.

I'm sorry bro the 65s. I want some 25s, but have really fell in love with Heats. The tone is hard to describe other than really strong.

cool stuff dude. the texas heat clips on the eminence site sound cool. i'd be interested to try them out sometime.
but yea, the sb65s are probably my least favorite speaker out of all the ones listed but that's just me. the sb25s are nice though =)

Yeah I really liked how my Nitro sounded when Scott played it through a SB 25 cab. The only thing I questioned was the power handling of them. I use a Senheiser 609 live, so I can really crank and get a nasty tone to go through the PA. I like the greenies with the Nitro, but they struggle a little more than I am comfortable with when cranked. The heats have that good " in your face" tone to them. Perfect for chugga metal. They also sound really good clean. In OD 1 with the gain turned down they have a ZZ Topish kinda tone, but not a brown tone if you know what I mean. That just may be the Nitro voicing though (who knows). I figured I would try them since no one is using them and I like to have something different. So far they are my favorite.

the sb25s are rated at 55 watts so they have more headroom than greenies. and yea the nitro doesn't sound as "brown" b/c it's voicing. more low mids than upper mids i guess. still very cool though! im looking forward to cranking the amps tonight and messing around with some speakers.

it's just a matter of voicing for me. they are pretty tight but have a lot of emptiness in the mids, which i don't like. i like a lot of thick mids, which i know isn't something some people prefer. the sb25s are similar to the sb65s but are thicker sounding b/c they have more mids that fill in that space.

The 65's sounded pretty good with the Quickrod I had. I don't really have an opinion on them with a Nitro....nothing really stood out to me. I will say the Big Blocks are for the Quickrod not the Nitro (tames the upper mids a bit). Way too woofy with a Nitro (my opinion). I like a tight strong speaker that doesn't have issues when cranked (woof, fart, buzz, honk, cry heh heh). Out of the Splawn speakers the SB25's are the perfect match for the Nitro ( I questioned the power handling), but now that I think of it Scott told me that they were 55 watters when he demoed my amp through them. Windsen is correct and there should not be any issues of early break up with them. If you want to get Splawn speakers for a Nitro..........SB25's. In an Eminence go with Heats, Govs, or Mans. My opinion of course.

i agree with snappinnecks are far as what goes best with the nitro. but i still haven't tried 4 sb25s in a splawn 412 and i am worried about them sounding too bassy. having just 2 in my 212 sounds very big already. but yes they are tighter than the bb's.

Thanks guys. Snappin I actually have a competition not a nitro. Windsen Josh from splawn told me the 65's have more lower midrange is that true? Do you like them better in the QR? Are they bright sounding?

now that i think about it yea the 65s do have a bit more lower mids than the sb25s, but the sb25s sound thicker in my opinion. i wouldn't say the sb65s are bright speakers but it's weird, they kind of have this hollow upper mid thing with a jangly top end that i don't get along with. so i don't know if bright is the right word. they aren't piercing, but have that jangly top end. the sb25s have more of those upper mids (but i wouldn't describe is as spike like with govs) that makes it a bit more in your face. some people equate that to brightness but i wouldn't call the sb25s bright either.

If you have a Comp either Big Blocks or Heats would sound good. The Comp is the same tone wise as a Quickrod right? Any speaker that has milder highs or a smoother character to it sounded best with the Quickrod to me. I would choose the the Heats though. I found the the Big Blocks to have a woofy character to them.

Windsen did you get to try the 65 together with the 25? The reason i'm not sure if I should go with two 25's is that they might have that greenbacks fizz going if you know what i'm talking about. The 65 being darker would contrast the 25 nicely, at least I hope it will. snappin I didn't really like the big blocks from the clips, aren't the heats very high wattage and very loud?

Yeah they handle 150 watts. I spoke to Dave @ Avatar speakers about different speaker characteristics when I was purchasing my Contemporary cab. He was dead on about the greenies. He said I would love the tone at lower levels, but they would break up a little too fast for what I am looking for. He basically told me that in order to get to the sweet spot on my amp or any high wattage amp I would need to go with a speaker that handles a good amount of power. I went with the greenies since they don't carry Eminence any more. I love the tone they have, but they can't handle the Nitro on full power. I love jamming with a live drum set, bass, PA etc in the practice room and having crushing tone with tons of headroom. I couldn't get that with the greenies. I can turn the heats up until it hurts and still have room to crank. In my experience with recording, speakers with more headroom have a smoother sound and need less eqing. I used the G12T-100's for a while and loved the smooth tones I got from them at good recording levels. A 600 watt cab sounds like overkill with the heats, but honestly it makes perfect sense. With metal I think having a good bit of headroom makes for some good crushing tone.
