Great clips windsen! I can´t decide whether to go for the quickrod or the nitro.. I play metal too. But there´s something about the quickrod that I really like, for speedy metal riffing. Probably something to do with the high mids and the low end punch. Could you (or anyone else) please try to explain the difference of the two amps ? I know you´ve done some already. But since you´re getting a quickrod again, there´s gotta be something about that amp that you´re missing with the nitro.. ? Or are you totally satisfied with the nitro for metal, and plan on using the quickrod for rock/hard rock etc ? I´m either going for a quickrod with kt77 or the nitro, but I need to sell my framus cobra stack first.

hey man, thanks for the kind words.
the thing i really loved about the QR was it's super tight/fast responsive and it's voicing. i like to play modern metal but don't like modern-type tone. i like lots of mids and don't need excessive low end.
now the nitro is one hell of an amp and i love mine. i ain't getting rid of it. it does the modern thing well without sounding like a horribly scooped low end flubmachine. it's still a super tight amp, but because of the increased saturation, it's not as responsive as the QR. it is a darker sounding amp, which isn't exactly my cup of tea but again i still really dig this amp.
so that's why i'm getting a quickrod again...for it's voicing and response. the nitro is not lacking in any respect. the two are just different animals, and each do their respective things wonderfully. hope that helps man. either way you end up i'm sure you'll be more than pleased. scott puts out amazing amps!

Thanks for replying windsen! I think we agree to some extent about tone About the low end in the QR.. do you think one should go for kt77 to get abit closer to the nitro when it comes to low end thump, or maybe the winged c´s ? Can you get the nitro to sound in the same ballpark as the quickrod through tweaking, when it comes to response/attack ? (less low end & saturation, more mids and highs etc) Also do you think the quickrod will stay tight with standard C tuning ? Thanks man!

kilman, personally i liked the QR better with SED EL34s than the KT77s. the kt77s can make the QR, which is already a very tight amp, even tighter, making it feel real stiff. the kt77s will add more low end but i wasn't willing to give up the feel of the amp for that. the SEDs are a good mix b/t the mullard el34s and the kt77s in my opinion. tighter low end than the mullards but retain the "sag" and grind of el34s as opposed to kt77s. the QR was plenty of low end so as long as you're turned up there will be plenty of "thump". the nitro is just set apart in that most of it's voicing is in the lower registers so the low end presence is massive. the QR can get close but it won't sound exactly like a nitro (i.e. huge sounding) in that regard.
the nitro is actually a pretty versatile amp. turning back the resonance knob increases the response/attack while also reducing the low end thickness to bring it into more of the QR territory. but again the two amps are very different. they can be dialed in to sound somewhat like the other but in the end each were designed to do their own thing.
the QR will stay tight no matter what you throw at it. i have a recording up on the splawn site with the QR played in drop C. it stays plenty tight.
let me know if you have any more questions man.
