I just purchased a used Street Rod from Guitar Center. It looks brand new but is a 2011 model I believe. After figuring out the loop volume and cranking the front volume I've got it sounding great. I guess I have 45 days to send it back to GC if there is a problem. Anything in particular I need to check or look out for? Is there any way to control all three gears of the OD channel with a foot pedal? I saw the video below and he was using a G-Lab GSC3 switching unit. Amp in video sounds great! www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-6OL8fSShc

Congrats! AFAIK you can only control 2 gears. I have a 2016 QR and can only control 2. I typically use a good amount of gain and I feel like gear 3 is gain overload. I just use 1 &2 and I can get everything I need out of the amp.

Yes, I have the 4 button but I don’t use it. I do all of my switching with a Musicomlab switcher. And yes, it’s midi capable. And it works wonderfully....so easy. Multiple changes with one press of a switch.

Nice thanks...
Man, I got home today from working looking forward to playing it and all I get is static. Wonder what is wrong with it?

Really? Does turning knobs/fx loop etc change how it sounds or make any difference?

Ok....first thing first. Unplug everything from the amp and plug the guitar straight in to the input. We need to figure out if it’s the amp or your board causing the static.

Ok.. I plugged a short cable into the loop and connected it to itself. Not improvement. I took it out and pushed the bypass switch a few times and twisted the loop volume a few times and when I turned it back on it was the normal static and I could play it. I leaned over the amp with my hand on the top and I could hear the static increase as I put more weight on my hand. Then I twisted the loop volume know (with the loop engaged but nothing plugged into it) and it cracked a lot and then stopped. I have some DeoxIT D5. Should I spray it on the loop volume pot? Or in the send and receive jacks?

Don’t spray into the jacks!!!! Spray the 1/4 cable end and work it in And out of the jack several times.

You removed your pedal board from the equation?

You removed your pedal board from the equation? I never had one. This amp sounds too good. I don't need anything.. yet Right now it is sounding better than ever. I'm loving it. I'll put some DetoxIT on the cable ends and work it in and out and see what that does.. what if it is the pot?

You can carefully spray the pot. I would put a rag around it so it doesn’t splatter or if you want to open the amp up and spray directly into the pot’s wiper you can do that. Try to twist the pot as you spray to work it completely in there. Just spray as gently and sparingly as possible. Let me know how you make out.

So the amp is still playing and sounding good, it’s just static-y?

So the amp is still playing and sounding good, it’s just static-y? Yeah, once I got the static to go away it is gone and the amp sounds great. It was rocking last night. I am amazed at the amount of great tones I can get out of this amp and at what volumes. At tv levels I am getting the best tones I've ever heard. I've never played so long without taking a break.. it is very addicting. This is my main player now.. no more modelers unless it is more convenient for the time. I had to play it before work this morning so I got ready a little early. It did the static thing again when I first turned it on so I twisted on the loop volume knob and it crackled and cleared up. When I was done I sprayed some D5 on the end of my guitar cable and pushed it in and out of all the jacks on the amp. Hopefully this took care of the issue. The amp does have a little static when the guitar is not making noise, depending on where the volume knob on the front of the amp is but I think that is normal. One of my favorite tones is a Hot Rodded Plexi and I hadn't found what I was looking for until I turned it back to Gear 1 and turned the Gain up to about 2:30. It was there and everywhere between there and fully opened. The Gain knob on this amp is so useful from 0 to wide open. All the Plexi tones are there between those two settings. Same for the two gears of the Hot Rodded 800. I'm not used to a Gain knob functioning this way. This amp is so awesome and versatile, I can't believe it is not more popular. Especially among Marshall lovers. I think I've finally found the amp I have been looking for my entire guitar playing life. Wish I would have found it sooner. If I can't get this static issue cleared up I will send it back and get a new one from Splawn.

Ok, so you know where the static is coming from the .... Open her up and direct spray the loop pot’s wiper while twisting the knob.
Also keep in mind that gain hiss is different from static so the more you turn the gain /volume up the more hiss will be present. That’s just the way high gain tube amps are. I run a noise gate in the loop of my QR and it is silent.
Can you make a quick cell phone video of what’s going on so we can be sure we are attacking the correct issue?
