Congrats on the amp jchrisf! Fellow Street Rod owner here. Glad you got your static problem resolved. I've had static issues but it always turned out to be a cable/pedalboard issue. Once I used a good cable going straight in and a short good cable in the loop it was quiet as a mouse.
You use it like I use it, gear 1 with the gain at 2:00ish, kick into OD2 for some extra "oomph" if needed. Sounds wonderful! Gear 2 is a bit bassy for me, and more modern sounding to my ears, I used gear 2 a couple of bands ago and we played more recent harder edged stuff. OD2 on gear 2 is better sounding than OD1 to my ears, brings more edge to the tone.
Current band is more classic so gear 1 does me just fine. Gear 3, as gtrjunior said is kinda gain overload but for fun I'll kick it in if we do something more shreddy.
A few tips if you're not aware of them yet:
1. The solo boost is great but is only really effective if the OD channel volume is below noon, 9-9:30 is the sweet spot. This still gives you plenty of volume, I always use the loop volume in back and rarely go past halfway even when competing with drums and the rest of the band.
2. My SR is a combo and has the Creamback 65 in it and I pair it with a 1x12 extension cabinet with a greenback in it. Sounds great! The greenback is a little edgier and balances nicely with the Creamback's beefy tone. If you do use an extension cab, make sure you adjust the impedence on the back.
3. Sounds like you're going straight into the amp, and that sounds great! But if you add pedals in front be aware that Splawns seem to be really picky about crappy buffers... both gtrjunior and I used to use a Crybaby that didn't have a good buffer (95Q model) and it kinda killed the magic Splawn tone. True bypass works much better, although I do have a buffered pedal (Boss compressor) at the beginning of my chain to help with the loss of tone due to cable length.
Again, congrats and enjoy!
