Sent him an email about checking out my streetrod from 2010 for a checkup and or updates, mods and responds that he is basically a one man show now because of the used market / economy? No repairs or updates. Not good. Doesn’t sound like he’ll be around much longer. Guess I’m not buying a newer Splawn because I won’t get it fixed if need too....

So he’s not honoring the warranty?

That doesn't sound good... one man show? I know it is (was) a small operation of about 4 people, and despite being very busy he didn't want to expand because quality would suffer if he started mass producing. If he's the only one working on the amps I wonder if it's due to slow business or if employees moved on and haven't been replaced.
Seems like it still takes a few months to get one built... would be interesting to see how long it takes from someone who ordered one recently.
As far as the statement about not doing mods/repairs... that doesn't necessarily mean he's not honoring the warranty. Mods/updates/checkups aren't covered under the warranty and depending on the repair it could be a warranty issue but it might not be (bad tube isn't covered under the warranty after 90 days etc...)

I'm sure he will honor the warranty but I'm pretty sure (90%) his authorized dealers can handle that. Usually, to be an authorized dealer you also sign up for being able to make repairs - have a bench basically or at least a plan to send it to get it fixed.
I'm also pretty confident that he has been a one man shop for some time now - at least a year. 90% sure of that. I asked him if I could help get pics of his new stuff posted here, like the ones he posts on facebook, and he said he would try but just didn't have time for that stuff (because he is a one man shop now).
There was a thread recently on R-T where we were talking about why Scott doesn't go to NAMM or take his business to the next level like Dave Friedman did. You can pretty much assume why but I made the comment that it was my impression that Scott was not really into all that and wasn't in it for the money. Plus like you are saying, he wants to maintain his quality levels.
I mean no disrespect to Dave Friedman, he makes a fine amp, but how many of his amps are made overseas? How many are outsourced? They are not cheap either. Although the JJ Jr has me very interested. If you really looked at what goes into building a Splawn amp from scratch you'd realize that Scott is not making a ton of money on these things. He's making a nominal net profit. HUGE RESPECT!

While I was waiting on the SS1 I asked Scott how things were going and he confirmed what has been said above. He is for the most part a one man show and the used market is his worst enemy. At that time (June) he didn't sound like he was going anywhere if you follow his Splawn facebook page he is still turning out Amps and Cabs. As Splawndude mentioned Im sure he will honor his warranty but you will need to be patient as you may experience a longer time in the amp being fixed and returned.

It's interesting that the used market is his worst enemy... when I search on CL for "Splawn" from San Diego I get nothing... even "Nearby areas" which include Orange County up to LAX there's nothing. It seems when someone buys a Splawn they usually hang onto it. Search for Marshall and you'll find pages of amps being sold. I know this is anecdotal, but it's a bummer that Scott is being hit so hard by the used market.

And often see little to none being sold used.

Thinking about this some more... it probably isn't the used Splawn market that Scott is talking about, rather the used amp market overall. Seems that as interest in guitar is waning somewhat there is more used gear for sale out there. Again you can find tons of used amps on CL, maybe people feel they can get a really good used amp for less than a new Splawn (doesn't have to be a Splawn). For a grand you can get a pretty darn good amp, it's not a Splawn and isn't gonna give you "that" tone but it may be enough for a lot of people.
Just musing here...

used market, and the guitar world in general, is hurting lots of people.
look what happened to Peavey.
why would Freidman offshore some of his amp mnfg?
new Vintage 30s are made in China?
internet sales taking over brick and mortar.

There are 4 Splawn ads up in Montreal right now. A older Quick Rod, newer Nitro, a Splawn modded Marshall slp and a Splawn 4x12. They have all been on market for about 4 months. Don't know why as the prices are reasonable. A while back a guy put a 2018 Quick Rod up for sale for $2300 and he kept dropping his price down every month until he sold it for $1000 canadian!! That is like $800 us!!!! I think alot of gigging guitarists around here don't want a big heavy rig.....

Gents.. Scott has confirmed that he is and will be honoring warranty work of his amps as outlined in his warranty to the original owner. So take the standby off and crank them amps....

I will say other than word of mouth I am surprised that people know of the company, I haven't ever seen advertising anywhere. I may be wrong but the amps are pretty popular for just word of mouth. Maybe some ads will push the amp to a new level, I wish him the best these amps need to stay available !

And the social media outreach could be better. Clips of the amps would be great. These are one of the best amps being made right now and I feel like more advertising would cause them to really take another step in popularity.
