That's just it though guys.
I don't think he wants to or can build more than he is now.
Just a hunch. An opinion.
To grow, would mean he would have to give up some control. I just think he likes it the way it is. Now, if he really wanted to grow and wanted to get bigger, but was afraid of the used market (for example), that is another story.
The Friedman story is a great example. Dave has grown his business big time. I think that comes at a cost though. I believe most of his amps are outsourced to B.A.D. manufacturing (I cannot find any evidence that anything is off-shored - so I retract that - not sure where I heard that from). That and he has to deal with Guitar Center and advertising and a lot more warranty items and NAMM and all of that. Those are all things that come with a lot of headaches/costs. His amps are generally more expensive too. I'll give him credit though - he's doing a good job from what I can see. He is also very active on the forums - which takes time as well.

I will say other than word of mouth I am surprised that people know of the company, I haven't ever seen advertising anywhere. I may be wrong but the amps are pretty popular for just word of mouth. Maybe some ads will push the amp to a new level, I wish him the best these amps need to stay available ! I have to agree. I feel like his website could use a fresh, easier to use design. And the social media outreach could be better. Clips of the amps would be great. These are one of the best amps being made right now and I feel like more advertising would cause them to really take another step in popularity. I have had guitar players come up and ask "who the hell is Splawn?" I explain hand made in North Carolina and they say " I'll have to check them out I never heard of them", but they always compliment how good it sounds ! I pulled off a gig last week in a small bar with a 100 watt celestion 1x12 Cab at 50 watts on the head and it was awesome. My old 79 2203 would not have been as good...

If he wanted to he could expand by orders of magnitude but he would give up a lot and get a lot of headaches. Think of it like a great musician who loves making music and playing to an appreciative crowd, makes it big and ends up hating life because of what the music business can do to people. Scott is wise enough not to become too big, striking a balance between what he enjoys doing and the potential of what he *could* do.

As a poor man and a working stiff just getting by, my only way into a Splawn was a used QR I found on the web site Reverb.com. It was $1500 financed with Affirm. I was beyond joyous to have gotten it. I wish I had the money to order an amp directly from Scott every year. Id own one of each. But again, I live lean as I said. Having read the above, I will however endeavor to buy direct as I can in the future. I am a huge fan of what he does!

Took my amp to a local tech. He got it fixed and sounding great. Burned out screen resistor and a couple other issues. Amp was running on 1 power tube. Sounds awesome now.

Hey guys - been a while since I've been on here. Hope everyone is doing as well as possible during these strange times.
Anyways, I've had my QR since early 2008. I stopped keeping up with gear news/message boards around 2010, and it seems like a lot of substantial updates to the QR have been made since then. Has anyone gotten Scott to perform these mods recently? My QR is hundreds of miles away at a relative's right now, so I won't be able to access it at least until well into the new year, otherwise I'd just email Scott himself. Was more just curious for now. Really like the idea of the B+ mod and wish I could have that on my QR...wouldn't mind waiting either.

Oh yeah, I have a 2016 fully loaded QR. the only one I don’t use is the mid scoop mod. I’d highly recommend the drop B+ and the old/new voicing. And if you don’t have a loop volume, it’s a necessity.

I was in contact with Scott prior to the end of the year, asking about getting the "fully loaded" mods done to my Nitro. He quoted me a price to get the mods done, so he's still doing them apparently. I decided to wait until after the first of the year so as to let all the Christmas shipping madness pass. However, the last email I sent to him requesting confirmation of his shipping address and whether I needed to include any kind of paperwork/workorder request outlining the work I wanted done did go without a response from him. That was on, or about the 6th of December. I'm sure he's just busy, and it probably slipped by.
I need to reach out to him again, now that things have calmed down.

Good to know. Thanks for the info update. I’m sure the email just slipped his mind. I’d reach out to him again or call the shop.

I think he's very busy and the holidays have slowed things down too. I ordered a 1x12 cab in mid November and Scott said it would be about 3 weeks (ordered just before Thanksgiving) and it will be here on Thursday. I've pinged him a couple of times and he was very apologetic and cool, I'd send him an email.

When I had Scott build my Quick Rod in early/mid 2020, it took about 7-8 weeks I think to get that which wasn't too bad. Ordered it in early May, and it shipped near the end of June. I'd much rather have someone take their time, and do the job right as to get it quick.

Agreed. Iirc my QR took somewhere around 10 weeks or so. This was in 2016. But for what you get it’s worth the wait.
