Hi! I picked up a Splawn Quick Rod a couple of weeks ago. The tag on the store described it as a 50 watt, but I suspect it might be a 100 watt, and trying to figure out the easiest way to determine that. Mine has a half-power switch and the serial number begins with a 'QR1..." which (from doing some digging around on here) might indicate the wattage? Second question - there's a persistent squeal on the 2nd and 3rd gain stages, whether a guitar is plugged in or not. I've checked (and even replaced) all of the pre-amp tubes, suspecting one may have gone microphonic, but it's still there. Wondering what the cause might be and if I bought a lemon? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. You seem like an extremely knowledgeable bunch here and hoping to get this figured out. Thanks so much! Attachments:

Congrats on your new amp. Looks awesome.
Yeah, it is def a 100w amp. You can run it in half power for 50w obviously but not sure why the dealer sold it that way. It also looks like the amp is in the half power mode in that pic.
As far as the squeal, yeah that is not good. Can you describe your whole set up and signal chain? Are you 100% positive it is not your guitar? Do you have electronics contact cleaner?
I would document everything immediately and contact dealer to notify that the amp squeals.

That looks a lot like my 2015 Quick Rod I had but the piping on mine was white. Yeah my guess is one of your pre amp tubes is microphonic. Did you put in new ones? Contact cleaner m8ght help too.

The squeal happens when the guitar isn't even plugged in. It starts when the 1st Gain stage at around 2pm, and gets drastically worse/louder when either the 2nd or 3rd gain stages are used. Again, this happens with nothing even plugged in to the amp. I've replaced all of the tubes, taken them out, used DeOxit, no change. I've read elsewhere that Splawn has suggested that retensioning the tube sockets might make a difference? Any experience with this? Thanks again for any advice/feedback.

Sorry no experience tightning sockets. If you have put in new pre amp tubes and it still does this, i would take it to your local tech.

Sorry. You did mention it happens regardless of what's plugged in. I have not experience with socket retention. Unfortunately, I think it is tech time.

Does it do it if nothing is plugged in. For example...remove your pedal board. Make sure absolutely nothing is plugged in. Nothing in the loop either.

Also, if you go to the Splawn webpage there is a section where you can DL owners manuals. There is a page that shows you how to read the serial #. Obviously you’ve got a 100 watter but the serial also tells you the year and I believe Mfg date and #. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.
