I broke down and ordered a new guitar last night. I've been wanting a Les Paul style but I kept changing my mind from an LTD, Epiphone, etc. Ended up ordering an Epiphone Koa Custom Pro. The last Epiphone LP I had was a Prophecy model but I've played a few over the past year or two and they have been solid for the most part. This particular one had good reviews from every site I checked. Attachments:

That’s gorgeous. First guitar I ever bought myself was an Epiphone LP custom used at Guitar Center. Still have it and play it 10 years later. Very solid guitars. Congrats.

Thanks. Got it delivered today. A couple quick takeaways
It's a damn nice guitar. Found one little dent in the wood but is under the clear coat not a deal breaker.
It stays in tune really well. Wasnt expecting that at all. It does need a setup as there is a little bit of buzz on the high E string. Really nothing unexpected and I already had made an appointment for a setup for Saturday. The tuners are grover 18.1 and has a graphtech "nubone" nut.
The only thing Im not really thrilled with are the pickups. They arent bad but I want something a little hotter. Not sure what Im going to swap them out with.
All in all Im really happy with it and its a good value for $650. I need to grab a case at some point in the near future.
The most surprising thing out of this is my wife didnt complain at all. She actually said I dont care what you do with your money. This was a major surprise.

If your open to a pickup suggestion....check out Fokin pickups. He’s from Moscow and he makes some of the best pickups I’ve ever used. And the prices are better than anything you ca get from a name brand maker in the States. In a few weeks I’ll be ordering more pickups from him and that will make 5 guitars of mine with his pickups.

Fokin? I will check them out. You’ll need to open the website with google translate. The translation isn’t perfect but it’s close enough. He speaks pretty good English too, so my email communications have been great.

Lucky you cause mine always complains when i buy guitars! Did you try raising up the pickups to sound bit hotter?

No I havent but I will try when I get home. Maybe that's all that's needed. It just doesnt seem to have enough umph and it makes my amp sound like the gain is turned down.

I think no matter what you do those pickups aren’t going to cut it for you. The Gibson pickup lineup typically aren’t “hot” style pickups. And the Epiphone even less so. They don’t get much love on the interweb.

I ended up grabbing some fishman fluence modern pickups. I haven't used actives in awhile but figured I will give these a shot.
