I'm grabbing either a Splawn Nitro or a Quick Rod tomorrow. There are two on Reverb both from 2011. I play stuff from Pelican, Mastodon, Isis, Melvins type stuff to Carcass, Bolt Thrower, and Obituary type metal. What would be the plus and minus between the two? I know it's a bit more gain and some difference in the mids. I've played a friends QR years ago and only Nitro Kemper profiles so I don't have a great idea of the differences.

I have never played a Nitro but have heard they are good for modern metal.

I have never played a Nitro but have heard they are good for modern metal. This is about my understanding of it as well. I have the mid scoop switch in my QR but I never use it. I prefer the standard QR tone. I would imagine that if you have played a Kemper profile of one, you have a better idea than we do about its tone. I’m more of a rock/hard rock guy so the QR is for me. |

Never played a Nitro.
I don't know all the music you play real well but what you listed tells me you should get a Quick Rod.
That, and I've always heard it is easier to get a Quick Rod into brutals territory but harder to get a Nitro into Marshally territory if that makes sense.

I ended up getting both. I traded my Kemper for a 2013 Quick Rod plus the guy gave me some cash on top. I was talking back and forth with the guy then after not hearing anything I made a low offer for a Nitro which was agreed to. My Quick Rod is due to be delivered Saturday and Tuesday for my Nitro. I have a friend that will take whichever one I decide not to keep so Im not stuck with two.

I got my Quick Rod set up and I had to rebuild my pedal board since I got rid of my analog stuff when I bought the Kemper. I absolutely love it. I know I'm still in the honeymoon phase but I'm able to get the tones that I gravitated to on my Kemper. I am running the gain around 5 then using my Maxon OD808 for a clean boost. The Nitro will be here tomorrow but I'm not getting rid of the Quick Rod. I think its very possible the Nitro will stay too.

I have a Fortin Zuul on the way for a noise gate. Then Im using an Orange 212 with V30's. Im looking into switching one or both of the speakers for a creambacks. |

I personally didn’t like the V30’s I have a cabinet with the WGS Veteran 30 which is similar. Sounds great with my Marshall and Blackstar but it’s too much in the mids for the QR What I meant by which gear.... What gear setting on the amp are you using? 1st,2nd,3rd? OD1/2? |

Sorry I'm not used to the terminology yet. I have it on 3rd gear OD1 I believe. I have the mids a bit scooped but yeah definitely a lot of mids with V30's so I am planning on changing it at some point.
