I'm thinking of shipping my Splawn to Scott to add these features to my 2014. Before doing that, has anyone tried these features and what sonic differences do they make?
Thanks!

Yup...i have all 3. IMO the B+ is absolute necessary. It gives a fantastic sag and feel to the amp and really softens the attack, in a good way. The mid cut, according to Scott brings the voicing closer to what the Nitro has. Personally I never use it. Not that it’s bad per se, I just prefer the regular Quickrod setting. The old/new toggles between the new voicing and the 2006 voicing. I prefer the old setting as o feel it sounds meaner. If I could go back, I’d definitely get the B+ and the old/new and not go with the mid cut. That’s just me though.

Does the mid cut maybe get you closer to Mesa/Marshall territory?
Or more like a Bogner territory? Low mids?

I never use the mid cut and tried a couple times when i first got the amp. To me it makes it sound more modern or "nasily". Sorry, I am not familiar enough with Bogner or Mesa to make a comparison.
All i know is i don't like it lol.

In my mind the Marshall, Mesa, Bogner sound is fairly similar. They all have that midrange emphasis. Maybe different twists on the same circuit. Like Brian said, it gives the amp a more modern sound taking it into a more metal territory. I’d say the midrange shifts to more of a low mid emphasis.

Awesome! That is what I'm looking for, a shift to the low mids and I can run my mids and treble a bit higher. ...My other amps have a Thump and Growl/Neg Feedback control that adds more tonal variation. I would like to see if Scott has any other 'switches' and knobs he's tinkering with ala the Friedmans.

Do a YouTube search. Something like “Splawn Quickrod vs. Nitro” so you can check out the differences.

Yeah, I’ve listened to a few.
I’d love to hear clips of the Mid Cut, New/Old, and B+ differences, and I’m surprised none exist. I think it would help sell the amps even more. I’m still a fanboy of Splawn, but Friedman’s seem to be getting a lot more attention today at over double the cost!

I don"t know if Friedman have a voltage drop option? From what i have seen and heard, Quick Rod and Friedman BE sound very close with maybe a bit more bottom mids in the Splawn.
I am so amazed at how much difference speakers make with Splawn! After playing all afternnon today with my new cab... .i like it more than my creamback cab. Will compare to my greenback cab tonight.

The old/new is subtle as well. Probably something the player would notice but not a non musician (guitar player). The mid cut is definitely something you could easily hear the difference on.

Two questions:
1) Has anybody actually compared a newer QR with the "old/new" option set to "old" against an actual 3-pre to see how close they really are or not?
2) Am I correct the old/new option is not available without the mid cut option as well?

I’ve never compared the old/ new with an actual “old” QR. But Scott himself told me it is the old voicing from 2006 and earlier.
All 3 options are available in the amp at once. Mid cut Old/new Drop B+
From what I understand you can get any of them individually or any combo.
He calls it a fully loaded QR. I have all 3 options in mine.

I find the Mid Cut switch is a godsend if you have a really heavy bright guitar or a guitar with really bright pickups - you can engage the switch and then boost up the more 'natural' sounding mids with the mid knob and get a really nice tone. For a guitar with more balanced natural tone or a darker sounding guitar like a mahogany Les Paul, engaging the mid cut does have sort of a 'blanketing' effect that takes away some of the good string separation. I think its nice to have on the amp even if you don't use it often - its there for the few times you'd like to have it.
FWIW - I find I like the mid cut switch DIS engaged so the amp has all its mid voicing, then roll the mid knob back a bit. Mids cut - mid knob up to compensate / Mids in - mid knob rolled back a bit to compensate. The 'flavor' of the mids that the switch affects are entirely different than the mids that the knob controls, so your not just getting back to where you started by using the knob to balance the position of the mid cut switch.

OK. I'm looking for clips of what the New/Old does and the Mid Cut. I sometimes want my Pro Stock to get more metal or modern tones without having to use an EQ in the loop.
I have had my Pro Stock up for sale for over a month. I played it at my apartment and started really bonding with it again. I'm used to having more EQ on some other amps such as a Negative Feedback knob, which I love, and a few more switches like saturation, mid shift, tight, and others.
I'm thinking to send my Pro Stock to have the Mid Cut and New/Old swtich added. My Pro Stock is already B+. The ONLY think I do not like about my Splawn, because a somewhat lack of more options/switches, is that it has a some quality to the tone that I can only describe as squelchy or scratchy. However, I've played with the EQ more and realized that there are a lot of options already there with the basic tone knobs.
SO... Rather than sell it, I think maybe adding some switches can give me more variety. I would LOVE to listen to clips to see the differences the Mid Cut and the New/Old switches make to the sound.
Has anyone found these? Currently, my BE50 is my main amp, but it wouldn't hurt to have a 100watter on hand for outdoor stages which we sometimes play.
Does anyone have clips??
