I just picked up this Charvel LSX-1 on Varagesale tonight for $170!! The case is worth probably $100 lol. I haven't pulled out the EMG's to see which ones they are but will soon. It has two switches added and a knob with midi input jack. I know nothing about that but assume you need a special pickup installed to use it.
The neck is thick for a Charvel. I love it. Everything is straight and frets are good. The wilkinson bridge has a cracked high e saddle. I have a brand new black original floyd rose i am going to put on it. Gonna fill holes and re route for the floyd. The locking nut should fit right on with no modding.
I think this thing will be sweet playing guitar!

Nice!! I’ve been gassing for a MIA or MIJ pro mod but I haven’t found “the one”. Plus I really don’t have the money for another guitar at the moment.

I played tonight a bit on it with 5 strings lol and i really like the EMG pickups. I don't know what they are yet because i haven't taken her apart yet but they sound similar to my JB but smoother and a bit more mid focused. I heard EMG's were bright and trebly but not these ones! This guitar is incredible. I have never played a charvel that wasn't nice to play and well made. This one is made in japan early 90's.
It feels like a wolfgang when it's on me but the neck feels like a les paul.

I have an EMG 81-85 set in one of my guitars and although I have no complaints about the tone they do seem a bit sterile, for lack of a better word. I typically prefer passive pickups.

Yeah i prefer my passive pups also but i was surprised by how these were not super trebly and hot like their reputation. They feel smoother in the mids compared to my other passives and don't have the same attack or bite. That makes em feel sterile to me also compared to passives. The tone is warm and are articulate so i will keep em for a while. If i start to crave passives when playing this guitar one day, i will throw in a JB and a 59 my two faves. I am going to make a faux binding on the body and install floyd hopefully this weekend.

I feel the same about my guitar with theEMG’s...maybe someday I’ll want to swap them but they are fine for now. I’d probably sell the guitar before swapping pups though. I hardly ever play it.
Fwiw...I post on the Seymour Duncan forum as well. And they have a great “for sale/trade” thread. I bought a JB from a guy...I haven’t installed it yet but I like you’re train of thought...JB and a ‘59....killer.

Purdy! Love that top. Looks like a guitar I could love. Would love to really spend some serious time with an EMG (85). Like in my guitar with my stuff you know? My quick Duncan success story is that when I got my first electric guitar (10 years ago) I got a MIM fat strat. I decided I needed a JB type bridge pup. Then I quickly discovered that that was not the right pup for that guitar for what I was wanting to do. I bought it from Guitar Center. Man I was such a noob. Anyway, I called Seymour Duncan's 800 number and explained my situation. I was just looking for advice. To my surprise, they offered to take the JB back direct and ship me a TB11 Custom Custom. They said I would like that better based on what I was explaining I wanted. It was like a $10 difference which I paid over the phone. Beautiful bridge pup. I ended up putting in my Schecter - which is my main guitar (mainly because of the neck).

Love the top on that Schector! I am going to put a faux binding on this guitar. Love bindings with a flame or quilt top!
I had the tb11 custom custom a while back in one of my Korean wolfgangs. I liked the pickup alot but sold the korean wolfies after play USA ones lol. I remember that pickup being more mid focused and not as punchy top as the JB?

Yesterday, after I biased my amp, I was playing my LP. It has Dimarzios in it. A Super Distortion bridge and PAF 36 anniversary neck....that guitar is a beast!! Just for comparison I pulled out my EMG loaded guitar with the 18v mod. Man that that guitar sound awful compared to the LP. Maybe the batteries need changing? I think I need to sell it.

I took the guitar apart a bit last night. The bridge emg is a 81 and so is the neck! I thought the 81 was a bridge pickup ...no? I know i have seen the 85 as a neck usually paired with the 81. I noticed there is a resistor hooked up in there.
The bridge had wires from the midi circuit board under it's saddles....weird ....first time seeing midi so not sure if it is normal lol. Anyways, took it all out. The midi wiring had a circuit board which i pulled out but kept the strip of wires coming from the midid input which i will leave in as i don't want to have to fill that hole anyways lol.
I will try wiring one of the switches that was for the midi to make it a killswitch.
Here is pic of my new original floyd i got for $120. I compared the nut to one i got from ebay which i suspect was made in china and it is much heavier and you can tell by looking at it that the steel is way better quality. I will never by any floyd product from ebay again. It was a US seller too. The nut started making sitar sounds on the high e and g.

Yes, usually it’s an 81-85 combo. I could be completely wrong but I don’t think that’s midi...it looks like it’s just the standard EMG wiring harness. But...my knowledge of EMG Is weak at best so...

No that pic is just the bottom of bridge 81. The midi stuff is in behind where all the pots and wiring are. The was a wire like the width of tape with little plugs at the end that went into the floating circuit board and 6 wires that went from board to the bridge which were attached to bottom of saddles somehow.
