I've never noticed any tone suck from the Bad Monkey but I've also never really A/B'd that. I got it because I was new to guitar (I owned only a Valveking) and people were saying it was cleaner than a Tubescreamer (less coloring) and also had more tone control for the half the price. Have never really given it much thought. I suppose OD pedals are then logical new frontier for me Well, you use it as an "always on" boost....no? As long as it's on there wouldn't be any tone suck. Only when bypassed.

Not necessarily. It isn't even hooked up to the Splawn at all right now. It is on the Rectoverb (where it is needed more imo). I've been running the Splawn straight in as of late.
When it comes to OD pedals, I'm pretty lost.
But whatever amp it was hooked up to I didn't always have it engaged. Still can't detect tone suck but I think that would be a hard A/B test to do.
When it comes to this stuff though you guys are the experts so I'll take your word for it.

I just looked it up and the BM is not true bypass. Seems the general consensus is that there is a small amount of tone suck with that pedal. But if you don't hear it and still like your tone, that's all that matters. When I had the 95Q wah, the tone suck was very noticeable. In a pedal like that you'd notice it in a heartbeat.

I think what I will do is plug guitar into BM and then into QR and play pretty heartedly a variety of things for a good 20 minutes or so and then plug guitar directly into Splawn (as it is now) and do the same routine.
Wait. I have an A/B pedal. Maybe I can create something a little cleaner/faster using that.

For me, at least with the wah I used to have, the tone suck sounded like a "grainy" upper mids kind of thing. It's tough to explain. But it was really fatiguing on the ears. Once I plugged straight in, the clarity was night and day. I instantly knew...

I can vouch for this, I had the same wah gtrjunior had, Crybaby 95Q and replacing it with a true bypass wah (Crybaby classic) made a *huge* difference.

Hey guys, just an observation, I was going to revamp my pedalboard so I had to bring it home. I needed an amp to test it out with so I brought home my Blackstar HT-40 (don't use it now that I have my Street Rod) since it was just collecting dust in the room where the band practices.
So I'm doing some experiments with the revamped pedalboard, sounded really good on the Blackstar clean channel, kinda like my Street Rod, but then I went to the overdrive channel on the BS and I thought... "Man that is WEAK sounding!" It actually sounds alright for a $600 amp but compared to my Street Rod it just didn't have the tone, the liveliness, the edge, the smoothness, the quality...
It's interesting how our ears get used to a certain sound and then you go back to old gear that you liked at one time and realize how awesome your new Splawn is.

I mean, I've had all my pedals hooked up to the Splawn before and never really noticed any tone suck.

To test for tone suck......i just take the end of patch cord from my guitar and plug it straight into front of amp after i unplug the pedal board from front of amp. There is no differece presently. I have all EVH pedals and a MXR analog chorus with a modified cry baby wah. No tone suck there at all.

Yeah MXR pedals seem to be pretty good about tone suck... and you wouldn't think EVH would allow anything to have his name on it if it sucked tone... they guy's tone is phenomenal! I was surprised my Zoom G3 in the loop (digital multi effects, buffered etc...) has very little if any (to my ears) tone suck. The 95Q wah pedal that I've since sold... different story!

The buffer in your Zoom likely takes care of any tone suck issues. Many pedals that aren't TB either have a buffer or if you add a buffer to your signal path can be made to not tone suck. The Dunlop wahs are actually buffered, they just have a really crappy buffer in them.

Hey Splawndude, interesting that your Dano EQ settings are very similar to what I've got on my MXR! _

I believe there is a name for that curve. Nyquist maybe?
Of all the ways to bump and cut frequencies - this is the one I landed on for the Splawn. It has flattened out over the years, it used to be more dramatic.
