I've bought from Doug's in the past too....no issues.

Which power tubes did you get? I'm getting the Power Tubes from Scott. Yeah, it's just so easy to reorder with the pre-sorted numbers.

I'm getting the Power Tubes from Scott. Yeah, it's just so easy to reorder with the pre-sorted numbers. So if you order power tubes from Scott that have the same numbers do you have to re-bias? Just wondering... I can plug in a tube with the best of them but I'd rather not tear anything apart to rebias. Did that with my Blackstar, it worked but it was kinda scary.

So, in theory....yes. In practice....I ALWAYS bias. When I first got my QR, I was having some volume fluctuations going on. I bought a bias probe and splawndude linked me to a really good biasing tutorial he put together....easy peasy. The bias had drifted down to 25mA which is waaay cold...I brought it up to about 35mA iirc which is just slightly hot. I haven't biased my Blackstar yet...it's still basically brand new. And the last time I biased my Marshall a buddy helped me. If you don't already have one, the eurotubes bias probe is the way to go. www.eurotubes.com/store/pc/bias%20probes.htmI have the ET Pro One. It doesn't get any easier...

Ok...just popped a Sovtek LPS into the PI....can't say there's a huge difference between them and the stock Chinese 12ax7. Still, they both sound and feel good. I'll leave the Sovtek in there for a while.
I still have quite a few NOS tubes I could roll through the PI. I may pull the Ei from my Marshall and see how that works. I have a smooth plate Telefunken to try as well. Also numerous RCA, Mullard, Sylvania, Tung Sol.... so on and so on. What are you guys running for a PI in you're Splawn?

Yeah I'm thinking the PI tube isn't going to make a big difference in tone, unless it's blown like mine was in my old Peavey Ultra head. Glad it's working for you, yeah just roll with it and see how it sounds as you move forward.

OK, so it's HPNWPD for me! I scored a Classic Crybaby (thanks to gtrjunior for turning me on to the true bypass nature of that pedal)on CL for $40. Nice score.... hopefully it'll work!
Looking forward to test driving it tonight and then putting it in my rig at practice on Wednesday.

Ok....now I have a BB Comp Preamp in transit. I'm hoping it will more or less be a multi-use pedal. My plan is to set it so while on the clean channel it acts as bluesy type low gain boost and of course I can add compression via this pedal. Then on the OD channel, well it will be gain ridiculousness.

It just came in today. I hooked it up and heard the most glorious sound coming from my amp that I've ever heard. Now I get "it". The compression makes the QR f'in SING.... so far I LOVE it.

A compressor is definitely one of those "secret weapon" pedals that everyone should have hidden in the rig somewhere.
