I love SRV, hes a huge influence, just not on THOSE clips,, hehehe.
My main influences are:
EVH, Lynch, DiMeola, John Williams, Scott Henderson, Gilbert and John Coltrane. If I could do eveything those guys could do, I could do anything.

My sister brought home 2-45 records in the late 60s...(I know...I'm an old timer...) One was: Jimi Hendrix-Foxey Lady/Purple Haze and the other was Santana: Evil Ways/Samba Pa Ti. My future was set from there...especially Santana's 'Samba PaTi' an instumental/solo guitar song...still one of my favorite tunes 'ever'..My top five guitar influences: Hendrix--Santana--Ronny Montrose--Michael Schenker--EVH...David Gilmour (honorable mention...)

Dude...Al DiMeola should wear a lab coat when he plays...he is scientific/flawless technique personified..

I've met him twice, once at a clinic and once backstage at a show in Cleveland. I got to play his sig Ovation, right in front of him I played the intro to Fantasia Suite. He gave me some nice compliments and then proceeded to tell me everything about alternate picking. Hes the master. Hes technical but also incredibly musical.

I spent a few years practicing picking excercizes 8 hours a day...every day... so I could play like him (DiMeola)...ended up with a sore wrist and a pissed off girl friend...He's awesome! You're right, he is musical as well as technical (IMHO). He is the guy that started me doing my guitar excercizes on an acoustic guitar (to build up strength).

It's hard for me to say who my influences are...too many and I'd probably leave out a bunch mainly due to the fact that not all of them play guitar. (i.e., Miles Davis, etc.) Whenever my playing really hits a wall, I find it helpful to listen to other instruments to help get the creative juices flowing...plus it sort of helps me (or hurts...depends on the perspective...) not sound too much like one particular player.
