1.) Probably dumb... I just purchased a used Street Rod and played two sets with it last night... OD1 and 2 don't seem to have a significant difference. I'm opening the amp up today to have a look at the tubeage and to see what's there... but to start with, those two ODs seem to be the same.
2) The amp didn't sit well in the mix for me. I'm used to a VERY different type of amp (Dr Zs for some years now) and this could just be my ears. It could be that the sonic impression of high gain is sometimes just a muddy tone that you have to work through.
Thoughts?

Not too sure about the Street Rod, but my QR's OD2 is a bit louder and has a bit more gain than OD1. It's noticeable when switching between the two. I run 1st Gear / OD2 as my main setting for the gain channel.

On the nitro od2 kind of "thickens" the sound up for single note lines. Kind of adds more mid/low saturation but not really much gain. It almost feels like a different type of gain rather than more of it.

I've been playing around with this and have finally heard a difference. It's obvious at lower gain settings. I've put a Creamback in it too, swapped a few cool NOS tubes into it. Working with OD/booster pedals to figure out what works best.

It's not a big difference but just a little more saturated and more gain. I can hear less of a difference at lower volumes. Having the amp at gigging levels I can hear more of a difference.

Definitely more noticeable at "performance" volumes. Adds more gain and more low end. I'm surprised that it's not cutting. My Street Rods cut right through the mix. Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss settings.

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss settings. I'm getting the hang of it. High gain amps seem to work best in band settings with less gain than you think you need. Since I'm playing classic rock, I don't need the skull crushing extremes. I find that the gain at 8 or 9 o'clock is plenty at performance volumes.

I gig my street rod 2-3 times a week. I agree that the difference between od1/od2 is more apparent at gig volume(10-11 o'clock on volume, loop volume full). For preamp tubes I have V1-ge 5751,V2-mullard i63,V3-splawn 12ax7,V4-ge longplate 12ax7. I have the splawn/sino el34's. I get a lot of compliments about the tone of this amp. I have no problems sitting in a mix, I think as someone mentioned before, the trick is to keep the gain knob around 12-1 o'clock or less for the best clarity. I have mine at 11 o'clock and switch between gear 1 and 2. Best amp I've ever had.
