I just picked up a 2011 kt88 Nitro on CL. I took a chance and bought it without testing because the guy wanted to meet in public and it worked out. I took it home and plugged in and it was a home run. I owned a 2012 and 2009 QR that I ended up regrettably selling to fund an Axe fxII. Don't get me wrong the Axe fx is a great piece of gear, but a computer is not as responsive and punchy as the real thing. Just want to say the Nitro is a seriously nice sounding high gain amp and I am glad I joined the club.

I was going to say Welcome to the world of Splawn but that is not necessary. :haha
Have fun with your Nitro.
I was thinking of switching to a Nitro just to see what all the fuss is about.
In your own words - how you compare/contrast them?
I think I'm more of a modern metal guy and I think I would like the saturation and low mids of the Nitro better than the QR. People have told me to get a EL34 Nitro though. What do you think?
My QR is an '08

It's the ultra-macho low end that I like...I heard that Dino Cazares has got one now!

Yeah I love these amps, they have something going on that other amps i've had such as Ubers and Rectifiers just don't have. This is the first amp i've owned that I plugged in and was almost immediately happy with everything going on sound wise, the nitro absolutely slays.

In your own words - how you compare/contrast them? I think I'm more of a modern metal guy and I think I would like the saturation and low mids of the Nitro better than the QR. People have told me to get a EL34 Nitro though. What do you think? My QR is an '08 I have owned the nitro for two weeks and play it through the same Marshall B cab with 75s that I used for both of my Quick Rods. I have not even bothered to hook up a single effects unit. I have just been playing my guitars strait into the amp and I am really happy with the tone. It is my first kt88 amp I have always been a el34 man and now I think I am clearly in the kt88 seat. Keep in mind this is only my opinion but to start with the clean channel is the best I have heard. I know this goes against what some say about the Nitro clean but I am telling you I can play this clean all day long with no effects and really enjoy it. I cant say that about any other amp I have owned including the 2 QRs I had. I think it must be the kt88s head room. Second and most important is the distortion channel. I like an amp to be as forward, punchy and responsive as they can be and the Nitro is an easy pick for the number one spot for this in my 30+ years of playing and no I am not an old man I started young. Again I think the kt88s play a role in this. The QRs were punchy but nothing like this. For me the bass control is in the perfect frequency range and yes the bass response of this amp is excellent and who cares if the useable range is from 0 to 5 you can find the perfect bass setting. The mid control is good and I run it high at 5+. The treble control seems to work a little different from the QR and is more independent from the other controls. I remember the treble controls on my QRs being more of a mid contour control than a plain treble control, but like the QRs I run it quite low at 1 to 5, and presence I run very low at 0 to 3. I think if you are more of a modern metal guy I would not be afraid to recommend a Nitro to you over your QR. All I can say is the Nitro is fun and easy to play with the gobs of extra sustain and yet somehow at the same time remain punchy and rhythmic.

Hey, me too. Just got my nitro. So far I can say this thing is right there with the best amps I have ever played. I'm not really a modern metal guy either, so I EQ like a Marshall with the bass about 4, mids and treb at 6, pres about 5-6, and resonance about the same. Gain is around 6ish. OD1 with the guitar volume down is just great edgy classic rock, full volume is 80's rock all day and then OD2, just about Metallica AJFA and anything after that. Just a wonderful amp and I'm really liking it A LOT. Clean is a little to chime'y for me, I gets sort of icepick like on the high notes, so I have to EQ the thing WAY bass heavy and dial back on the treb until the ice picks go away, but I hardly use the clean anyway so It's all good.

I use mine with an oversize B-cab with V30's and I can get everything from Slash to Metallica just by changing guitars & using the resonance & mid controls. I don't use the clean channel much but I've been messing around with a Red Llama pedal and can get a very fender-type sound.
