Just wondering, what type, size etc. of strings does every one prefer? Lately, after some research, I switched to pure nickel strings. I like them a lot. I honestly never put much thought into strings....just the gauge.

I tend to use 10's on LP's and 9's on Strat / Charvel type guitars. To me, 10's on an LP have the same feel, as far as bending and 'slinkiness' if you will, as 9's on my Charvels and Srats. Another reason I like 9's on these guitars is that they all have Floyds, or similar double locking terms. For me, putting the heavier gauge strings on these guitars and adjusting the trem springs to compensate, always made the trem feel too stiff. I felt like I had to go he-man on the trem arm. Not a big problem for dive bombing, but not as good for more subtle vibrato use.
As for brands... I've used Erne Ball Fender and D'addario. I think I may have tried the pure nickel at one point, but I'm not 100% sure. I bought a '92 PRS back in '95 and it came with D'addario XL's in 9 gauge, and I've been playing the XL's in 9's and 10's since then.
On another note... I've seen a number of rave reviews on Winged C EL34 tubes which got me kind of curious. Then, I heard the plant manufacturing them had shut down. So I decided to buy a quad yesterday to try 'em out. I'm going to pick 'em up Tuesday and will probably install and bias on Wednesday. If I like what I hear I may buy another quad since it sounds like they may soon be in short supply.

Cool man! I would like to hear what you think of the tubes. Well, after installing a set of Winged C EL34's, and after quite a few hours of rehearsal time at band volume and three gigs… I think I prefer the JJ E34L's, which I'd been using for the last several years. I guess I just like the extended tight low end and ballsier, more complex mid character of the JJ's. The Winged C's sounded ok… probably a little like the Sinos I was using before switching to JJ's. I've already ordered a quad of JJ's to replace the Winged C's, so I can't comment on the durability factor of the Winged C's, which many have raved about. But at twice the price of most similar tubes, I could live with having to replace the JJ's a bit more often.
