Seems to "tighten" up the gain channels. Also, it has very little overall effect on the tone even when dimed. Is this normal?

yea man I have noticed the same sort of thing with my Street Rod. The treble is rather unusual on all of scotts amps. Im not sure exaclty what it does but I find that I enjoy it right around 11 or 12 oclock. I seem to remember reading about this issue on some forum some time ago but I cannot remember what the consensus was.

People often posted over the years about running their Splawns with the treble "off". Doesn't work for me – sounds muffled as you'd expect – but I've seen it so many times I'd say it's normal.

Yes, That is what I find too.
Here is a tone setting tip. I use 4X12's with the Street Rod. Set the controls as follows. Treble = OFF, Mid 12:00-1:30, Bass = 9:00, Presence = OFF-12:00. Full Power, loop volume if desired All On GEAR 2. For me, these are the best tones EVER!
Listen closely as you adjust the TREBLE from OFF to 9:00. When I do this, I can hear the whole character of the tone changing, kind of in a weird or unique way. But I love it with the settings as mentioned above.
Rock On!

I've tried it with several different tube combinations (power & pre) and find it just does't seem to work for me. That could have something to do with the way I have the rest of the EQ set, but I find the best treble setting at almost 3 o'clock with presence, bass & middle all at around 2 o'clock. I'm running that setting right now with Winged "C" EL34 PT's and JJ high gain pre's, along with a UA attenuator and Splawn 4x12 w/SB's. Running the channel master at just under 10 o'clock and loop volume dimed, and this thing is a dragon slaying beast! You know you gotta great sound when other guitar players come up to you after a gig or set and want a complete breakdown of what you're running in order to get that "killer" sound! We played a gig a couple weeks ago and one of our former guitar players was there. We brought him up on stage to play a couple tunes and I insisted he play my rig. I got to go out in the crowd and hear what my rig sounded like out front, and I gotta admit... I was impressed! Great amps... thanks Scott Splawn!
