Howdy folks, new Splawn owner here. Just got a 2011 Quick Rod a few days ago, and am loving it to bits! I'm not crazy about my cabinet, though. It's a Mesa Recto 2x12. Sounds fine live, but it's way too boomy/bass heavy and ice picky when recorded. I was getting a decent recorded tone at first, but then the family came home, so I had to turn the volume down. Couldn't get a recorded tone I was happy with to save my life then. So, between moving the mic around, and tweaking the amps settings, I got as close as I could and just went with it. Had to fix a few problem areas with some EQ after recording, and I think after that it turned out OK. Still a pain in the arse, though. Anyway, here's my first attempt at recording my Splawn Quick Rod. Mic'd with an SM57. Guitar was a 2001 PRS Custom 22. The only pedal used was a TC Electronics Flashback dealy. The whole clip was in Gear 1. Once I get to the Panama riff, I click on OD2 for the rest of the clip. Gain was around 3:00. Bass and presence were all the way down, mid was around 9:30, treble was around 11-12:00. Definitely didn't sound good at all live, but those settings got me the best recorded tone with that cabinet & mic. Let me know what you think, or especially if you have any tips on recording a Mesa Recto 2x12. I don't want to have to keep fixing it's short comings post recording. soundcloud.com/mr-g-18/splawn-quick-rod-gear1Thanks for listening!
