I've had 3 different Quick Rods, sold a three preamp to buy a Les Paul Custom, sold the second one because I found the third in a head shell color I wanted with the FX loop volume, and sold the third when I found a Modded Marshall that suited me even better. I played in two different bands with them, so I'm pretty familiar with how a Quick Rod sounds at most volumes and uses. I'm a fan. Thinking of getting the SR for practice and some of the smaller places we occasionally play in the winter.
So, how does the SR compare? I preferred the QR in the 100 watt setting, does it sound like the QR in 50 watt mode? It's the same amp in a 50 watt power amp right? I've also owned multiple 50 and 100 watt Marshalls and there's always a difference and feel and tone between the two, even with the same tubes.

Street rod has the Splawn voice, but I don't think it's like a quick rod. Melower .

Mellower as in less gain? Less Balls? Less or more harsh? As far as I knew the SR is the same preamp, with a 50 watt power amp, why wouldn't it be "like a quick rod"?

I would less gain ,, tamer.more on the compressed side. Less balls? I would say yes do to the way it's voiced.it is a treble amp. When you use it at low volume you can't fail it out. Presence off treble off. Also the gears barely make a difference.when I switch to the blue channel it drops alittle in volume .i had the first run of the loop volume qr. I later got a pro stock. All I can say the street rod isn't voiced like a quick rod, other than the control layout.the clean channel sounds great. Maybe tweaking the clean channel some of the Splawn factor was takin out of the street rod.

I have both amps and use both very often for various gigs. The SR sounds like it has a bit more gain than the QR. Does it really have more? ....maybe, ....either way, both amps kill. The SR alone is plenty for nearly any sized gig. I mic my amps anyway so there are never any issues. The QR sounds "bigger" to me....more authoritative. But in all fairness, it is going through a 4X12. When I use my SR with a 4X12 it is nearly as authoritative too.

Through the years, QR's have gone through several revisions. Pre gear, three pre, 2010 or so and later? B + variation version etc. Have the street rods gone through any changes of the last few years as well?
