Howdy Splawn forum, I'm a big Randall MTS user. I have lots of modded preamps as well as 3 power amps. That said, I'm growing tired of some of the MTS limitations and might want to pick up another non-MTS amps. I started a thread on Rig Talk and they seemed to steer me to a Splawn Nitro. I have a few questions and hope I can find some help on this forum. 1) I used to have a QR and hated how it felt. It was too dry and stiff. VHT's can be stiff, But to me they're more useable as far as feel goes. Is the nitro going to be as stiff as the QR or does it have some give to it? 2) As for tone, I want something that has Marshall voicing. I'd like my main sound to be reminiscent of an EVH Brown Sound, that feels slightly dark, but has a searing top end with lots of body. The QR I had was shrill to my ears. I'd also like to avoid any fizz. 3) I'd like a lead channel that's in vein or an SLO/ Mark IV/ Caswell #39 4) As far as cleans go. I'm a fan of warm Dumble-esque clean tones. How does the nitro's clean channel sound? IS it good with pedals? (delay, fuzz, OD) 5) The nitro is described as modern sounding, which I want. However, If I wanted to play 70's style rock, would it work too? Thanks for the help. Peace~ PS. Here's the original Rig talk thread I referred to- www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=130505

Hey bro,
The Nitro is VERY forgiving, especially with 500k pots in your guitars. If you crave a nice easy to play bounce or if you need some more sag, you just dial it in with the resonance control, this makes the amp feel like a boosted JTM45. Cleans are good on the KT88 version but haven't tried the EL34 one. I would say Nitro is closer to an SLO 100 than a Mesa, but using the OD2 function you can get a nice mk2 c+ type lead sound.

The Nitro has more gain than any Mesa or amp out there. The Nitro will produce any sound you could imagine. The Nitro is the FIRST amp that sounds fantastic at lower volumes and don't worry about that high fizz. Sure, you can have that out of the Nitro if you crank the treble and presence! It will take you no more than 15 minutes to find your sound but a lifetime to bring out all the Nitro is capable of!!
It simply is the BEST AMP AVAILABLE AND MADE BY FIVE PEOPLE!!
