In the middle of a gig last night, my street rod died. No sound at all, even though all of the tubes were glowing. Luckily I had an amp modeler that I could run through the PA, and get through the gig.
It looks like the High Tension fuse blew. The glass has some discoloration, and even though the filiment visually appears to be intact, the ohmmeter tells me otherwise.
I will be replacing the fuse today to see if that fixes the problem. But if a fuse blows, it usually means that something went wrong further down the line, and the fuse saves the more expensive components. So my concern is what would cause this fuse to blow? I want to try and avoid this happening again.
Any ideas on where to look to try and determine why this fuse opened?
Thanks,
Ron

I had a similar thing happen with my QR and it was a bad tube. When I lost sound I looked at the tubes and they all looked fine. I checked the fuses and found the blown HT fuse. I replaced the fuse (I always bring spare fuses and tubes to gigs) and when I brought the amp outta standby I saw a flash from what appeared to be one of the inside pair of tubes, and the fuse blew again. The tubes still looked fine. I replaced the inside pair of tubes with the inside pair I removed when putting the new tubes in, replaced the fuse and fired up the amp and it worked fine. Shortly thereafter I did a complete re-tube and bias.

The new HT fuse fixed the no sound issue, which I am quite happy about. The hard part will be trying to determine why the fuse blew. Should I retube the amp? I am concerned that the next time I play out, the same problem occurs.
Lesson learned, though. I now have spare fuses in my toolkit.

I'd flip your amp around so you can see tubes real good and give your amp a good workout. If anything looks our sounds off, then shutdown immediately. Either way, I would contact Scott to let him know. Maybe the tubes he's getting these days are not that great. That's my thought. Does it have Sino's?
Get some SED =C= in there or JJ's

This is a crazy post as I had the same issue this weekend. I've never had one issue in the year and a half I've gigged my QuickRod. I could hear our power was a little dirty so I changed the fuse and all was good. I also am in need of finally retubing my Splawn. I've never biased as I've always owned Boogies or didn't have an amp long enough to bother. Should be interesting lol

Wow, not good. I have never had an amp die on me, in my life. That is scary. Is it something common with Splawns?

Oh boy looks like Rich is here to troll again. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Splawn. They're built as good if not better than anything I've owned.

I mentioned earlier in this thread the same thing happened to my QR. What I failed to mention was that is also happened to my Framus Cobra and one of my Rectifiers. In the case of the Rectifier, it also took out some other components and I had to send the amp in for repair. However, it's never happened with my PWE Event Horizon... LOL!!! (Couldn't resist!) Anyway, as all you guys who gig know... always have a back-up. And if it's a really important gig... a back-up to your back-up!

All you have to do is search previous posts. Rich only comes here to troll, one second he's ordered his Splawn, then a different story. I own Bogner Shiva and Ecstacy, tons of Boogies and my Quickrod. My Splawn is every bit the amp any of the others are and is half the price of my Bogners. My next new amp is all Splawn. They sound amazing and are built like brick sh#t houses.

So true! I have neverhad anything fail but most likely due to good luck. LOL
