Hello all - I'm a new member on this forum.
I am considering purchasing a splawn competition model but I need some help.
Backstory: I played a new charvel socal strat thru a quickrod @ a local music store. I loved how the quickrod sounded but I dont think I really need the clean channel. After looking on splawn's website, I noticed the competition lacks the clean channel and plus runs 25w/50w capability. I want a lower wattage amp as my next amp so on paper this looks good. I emailed scott and he said the competition model is essentially the quickrod minus the clean channel circuitry.
My setup:
Guitars - humbucker, floyd rose trems, maple fretboards (i'm a huge EVH fan)
Pedalboard - Flanger, Phase 90, Delay, EQ, mxr microamp (which sounds like it would be removed and i'd use the amp's footswitch for the solo setting
Cabinets - 2 marshall 4x12 cabs loaded with greenbacks and 2x12 avatar cab with vintage 30s
Music I play - EVH, Led Zep, Floyd, ACDC, SRV, etc
Amp Use - I am in cover bands usually. I usually stick with one tone all night but I want the amp to have multiple good sounding tone settings; not be a one trick pony. I usually play in bars and some small stage venues. Needs to be able to be used in an APT as well as on a small stage. 25w/50w seems to be good for this
Current amp - Marshall TSL100. Has been reliable but 100W is too much for where I play. looking for a lower wattage amp that i can crank and just looking for a different sound
other amps I am considering - EVH50W head
So, what do you guys think? Should I jump for a splawn competition, does it fit my needs? Does it play nice with 4x12 greenback cabs? How is the effects loop? etc?
Any advice is appreciated ;D
